CD Changer

Hello to everyone I am a new member on this site. I recently purchased a 97 30 th anniversary Z28 Convert. with the 12 disc changer in the trunk. My problem is when I load cds in the changer and push the magazine back in it does not play. The unit does have power and the radio works. Is there anything I can check or am going to have to send the unit in for repair.

Thanks for the help.

The changer isn't rejecting the magazine or anything is it? It's accepting the magazine like nothing is wrong... just no sound? Is your stereo even recognizing the CD changer?

Correct. The magazine goes in and the radio does not play the cds.

Are the CDs loaded into the magazine correctly? I may be mistaken but I think I remember that the CDs need to be loaded with their label side down.

They are loaded label side down. I loaded some on the top and some on the bottom. Not sure if it feeds from the top or bottom. The changer does have power and loads the magazine without any problems.

Is it the factory CD changer? (if it is factory) is your factory stereo recognizing the CD changer... like your stereo shows the disc is playing?

Yes it is a factory cd changer. I am not getting any err messages or no response from the radio. If I push the aux button, there is no response.

Try unplugging the changer from the harness and plugging it back in again.

Is your HU a CD or tape deck? I'm not certain about your '97 but a '98 and a '99 F-body only came with tape decks that had changer controls. Some time during the '99 model year changer controls were added to the factory CD HUs.

The HU is a tape. I will try unplugging the unit.
