Angry car stereo error *sigh*

I have had a sony head unit in my truck for the past almost 2 years. It has been great up to this point. Yesterday, I was just cruisin on the freeway, with the stereo at a casual volume... and all out of nowhere it goes staticky (sp? ...wait thats prolly not a word). Its show the letters ATT on the digital screen. I can turn it off and back on and it will work for about a min and a half and do the same thing.

I have no clue what ATT means, and I dont feel like crawling up in the attic to get the manual. Anyone have any clue?

Thanks.

edit: oh yea, happens in both radio and cd mode.

att typically is an appreviation for "attenuator" on stereos...which is kinda the same function as muting but it doesnt completely "mute" the system...just drops the decibel level significantly so it's almost a whisper. an attenuator should not invoke static though...sounds like its time for warranty work!

oh great, I dont think I got the extended warranty... Ill have to look.

I was thinking maybe Amp T__? Temperature. (amp overheating) But I have no idea what would cause an overheat.

Funny thing is it took all kinds of abuse when I had my system. I sold the subs a month ago, and now I have problems with the head unit

Thanks for the response btw

My sony deck has a reset button on it. It is a tiny button that you can only push with somthing small like the tip of a pen. See if yours has one and try it. It has fixed my deck a few times.

if its 2 years old, a warranty probably wouldnt have been worth it anyway. Nice stereo stuff is pretty cheap

i guess what i'd do is first hit the reset button...its probably either in the back of the unit or behind the faceplate. if that doesnt work try it without the amp, hook your speaker leads directly to a speaker. if it's still the head unit doing it, at 2 years old its probably worth it to just junk it and buy a new one!@

I no longer have it connected to an external amp. I was thinking interal the internal amp mightve quit.
