Car Aarlm keeps going off

I keep hearing my car alarm go off but by the time I get there it stops, maybe on for 10-15 seconds, does it every few hours. The Alarm isnt on how ever and has not been used in quite some years. Its a after market Alpine, any reason why it would be doing that?

well...it must be on in some way..

If you don't use it, why not get rid of it completely?

I had the same thought.

What better reason than to have an stereo/alarm shop rip it out and replace it with a nice Viper or something? Some people think alarms are pretty worthless, but if you get the right system, it could be a life saver. Happened to me!

I would agree with that...but he doesn't seem to appreciate his current alarm, so nothing says he would use a new one either...

Maybe your alarm goes off randomly for a brief period of time like that to tell you it ISN'T SET....in other words - you have a car alarm...use it.

I disconnected the battery last night, don't want it to drain it. I don't use the alarm because I don't ever drive the car any more, its sits in a locked garage under a car cover. If I do drive its usually to a car meet or the track or to work on it a friends. I thought about getting a better alarm, since this one has a terrible range but its not really worth it given the car never really moves and when it does 'm always around it. If I daily drove it again, then yea, but since I dont any more, its kinda pointless.

Oh alright, makes sense now - except for the fact that you don't ever drive the car (or rarely) so you let it sit locked and covered.... the battery should be disconnected anyway then, and I'm surprised it took you this long to do it if this has been going on for some time. But seriously - you never had any starting issues letting it sit most the time with the alarm going off periodically?

EDIT: I know the question was "why does it go off?" -- I don't know anything about alarms, but who knows -- maybe there's some setting that sets it off for a couple seconds just to let you know that it isn't armed?

Never noticed it when I was at my dads house where the car stays, I have an apartment, I sure as hell wont take the car with me there since its a lot of college students. I have seen people get drunk and hit parked cars way to many times, rather it be the Blazer then the TA. I disconnected the negative battery terminal on it for the time being. I don't have much time for the car but like it to much to ever get rid of it. I like F-bodies to much, had this car since 2000.

Exact same situation here - except I don't have another car... I might give in and bring it to campus next year.. I'm more worried about just crappy drivers in general, and not so much the drunks. Usually not really a reason here to drive with 13 bars on campus.

People dont care to much is thing, if they get a door ding they dont give a **** usally a peace of **** car any way, car gets scratched, oh well just one more to the collection. So they sure as hell could less care about your car if they ding it or bump it. Thats the stuff that got on my nerves when I daily drove my TA.
