capacitor vs high amp alt.

I'm currently running the jl audio 300/4v2 & jl audio 250/1v2....i need info on what i can do to keep my lights from dimming and blinking..its doing it pretty bad!...correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't capacitors for keeping power to the amp not so much for fixing the light dimming?....the slash amps dont need that...they keep constant power no matter the voltage(as long as its 10v)....so would a new high amp alternator(160 amp??) and bigger lead wires to the alternator solve this problem?..oh and ive already upgraded to a brand new duralast gold battery....and the amps are professionally wired with 4 gauge

The alternator would fix your problem way better than a capacitor. I would have gone with an optima red or yellow top battery, but the one you have isnt bad, just go with the alternator and larger wires and you should be ok.

Alternator and Big3 will be the most effective.

Competiton cars use extra batterie(s) usually with capacitor(s). Isolated and don't waste money on alt which can not provide enough current fast enough.

A cap is there only when the amps require more power than the alt can supply. So then they discharge to give the energy and the amp charges the cap back up.. think of it as a rechargeable spare battery for your amps. A bigger Alt will eliminate the problem. Reason the competition cars use caps really is because 1... the car is not running, 2 there is not am alt large enough to drive all the crap.

big3... and regardless of if u have a jl amp or not a capacitor will help to an extent with the dimming it has nothign to do with having a jl slash amp

seriosuly though no reason big3 shouldnt fix this, i had a budddy runnin 1200rms to his sub and 70x4 to his speakers in 97 TA with big 3 and no dimming at all

ive been in car audio for alot longer than ive been into engines. caps have no use in a street car period. the big three is what you need to do first. there is a youtube video on this if you dont know how. next you need to check your battery if it is old or getting bad replace it with a strong battery not a stock one. red top optima will work but so will a high end from advanced auto or somewhere with just as many cold cranking amps as the optima. high output alt will help but i doubt you need it with the power you have in your system. i would wait till your alt goes out to replace it or it gets weak atleast. again i stress caps do not need to be used.

Im with him on this one, stock alternator puts out around 120amps i believe which is plenty for what you got, run you a good 800 to 1000 cold cranking amp battery.

this is absolutely wrong. If you spend more than 5 minutes on a car audio website, they will all tell you that capacitors are a waste of time. Competition vehicles use a combination of several batteries and often, more than one alternator. In your situation, I think a HO alternator would be over kill.

If I were you, I'd do the big 3 upgrade with some 1/0, and add a battery to your trunk. Check out Kinetiks (s/p) batteries for your trunk. They are dry cell batteries made for car audio. I'd add one of the HC2400 batts to your trunk and call it a day.

However, if you ever plan on upgrading, I'd go ahead and add the HO alternator just to keep you electrical system one step ahead of your system.

Big Three

if you dont know what the big three upgrade is here is a video. it is very easy to do.

this particular car has 2 bateries... it is not nessisary to have two so if you only have one just forget about the wire connecting the two.

I think you forgot the vid bro....anyways...the big3 upgrade is essential. often times, it will solve all your problems on its own.
