On the 98 I just brought home, when you turn the key on, the odometer screen lights up but no numbers. I've checked the ign accy fuse, the shock sensor, etc. I've searched the threads and tried looking for everything i could to get it working. The keyless entry works except for the hatch release. The button on the dash for the hatch also doesnt work. The engine and trans ARE currently out of the car...... is there an engine ground thats causing this or the lack of VSS being hooked up? Also, the gauges come up when you turn the key on, but if you push the hatch button on the dash, they drop back down untill you let off the button. Havnt noticed that when pushing the remote button. Also, daytime running lights arent coming on with the key. Dont know if the two problems are connected so I thought Id add that. Also not getting stereo(but dont know if its even hooked up yet, last owner had aftermarket stereo). Going to try to tear into it this weekend, just wanting some pointers of what to look for.

 

Got it figured out today. It was an engine ground. Everything works like it should now. Just thought I'd post results in case someone else comes along with the same problem. Stereo wires were cut also, from someone having a different stereo in. They just threw the factory unit back in the dash and left wires hangin. Anyway, Im not sure which grounds they were, there were three wires with loops for bolts that were pretty close together so I set all three on a stud-bolt, hooked the jumper cables up and everything was working.
