I have a sony class D amp, 600watts rms @ 2ohms and 300 watts rms @ 4ohms.

I am going to be purchasing 2 jl audio 12w3 d6 's. I plan to put one in a stealthbox so it will be running one sub off that amp. Can I safely do that, the sub is like 300 watt rms but i cant get it to 4 ohms. What are your suggestions? I may do a dual sub in the trunk space but I am not sure yet.

I am worried about blowing the subs.

 

it will be fine. they are dual 6ohm voice coils? so what you do is wire it up in paralel itll drop it down to 3ohm total load which will put you in safe parameters with your amp. you wont get the full 600wRMS but itll work ok.

the amp shoudl put out slightly more than the sub can take which will be fine. just make sure you dont pound it too hard.. you should be able to hear when you are reaching the subs limit.

but only run one sub at a time off that amp not both or you will go down to 1.5ohm (i think if my math is right) which might cause problems.
