When you compare two 12w7s or 12w6s or alpine type x or mtx9500 or any similar 12" high power subs hooked to a 1,000 watt amp and compare it to a setup with two sq10s at 200 watts each, there isn't much comparison. So that is where I'm coming from. If you go with a setup like that with expectations of 'similar' output to a well box and two powerful 12s, then you may be disappointed. You can point them any direction you like and you'll never hit 150 dbs. It's just not apples to apples. They are completely different setups and should not even be compared. Every well box that leaves our facility is capable of hitting 150dbs with the right equipment installed. I don't want anyone to think a truck box with two 200watt slim 10s can do that. It's just false.

Don't get me wrong, SQ10s work great in really tight spaces, like under truck seats where nothing else will fit. But they are somewhat limited. X-max isn't very much and they bottom out easily--especially over 200watts. It's all about your expectations. I would not use them wherever I can fit a regular sub like the k series.

The setup clearly wasn't designed for an SPL competition -- it was designed for a customer who obviously chose cosmetic appearance above all; and it looks like the customer got exactly what they wanted, which is all that matters.

I think whoever asked about the subthump enclosure was more concerned about the box placement...and not "will the SQ10s pound as hard as two 12s in a Subthump well box??"

yea thats me. i was just wondering if it sounded similar to a well enclosure assuming you were using the same sub/amp combo.

You would not want to use those in a well enclosure because the well box has way too much air space for them. Now if you had a pair of stealthboxes, then it would be very comparable in quality and output.

Nice - can't wait to see it -- I made half of one...and probably would've been easier to make one more similar to subthumps since I could've gotten the volume I wanted easier -- I'm surprised more people don't make their own, though Subthumps cosmetic appeal is hard to beat (for me at least).

Yea I hear ya on the angles -- you must not have a table saw (I don't either) -- can't wait to see the pics!

well I do, but I used a skill saw for most of the cuts because something on the table saw wasn't working right. I have everything cut out now so its almost done. I just have to cut out the holes for subs and and wire terminals, and wrap it.

well I finished most of it today. I caulked most of it, cut out the speaker holes, and installed the wire terminals. I put in speakers and tested it out. there are a few air leaks on the piece that I had removed when I was caulking the first time. It sounded very nice despite the few air leaks.

Im going to caulk the rest of it tomorrow and wrap it in vinyl. I'll get pics up if I finish it before work.
