Bypassing the Bose Amp-Sub

I have a 95 Z28 with an aftermarket head unit and the 5-speaker Bose setup. The speakers all work fine, but I get alot of static and I'm guessing it's from the "Sub". The head unit puts out enough power that I don't need the "Sub" amplification. Is there anyway to take the sub out and just connect the white connector to itself? Or can I just unplug the power to the sub and still have the speakers work? I'd just rewire the whole system with new speakers but don't have the cash to do so right now. Just wondering if anyone's tried this.

I would just unplug the wires going to the sub itself.

The sub and amp are built together into one box. All the speakers run through the amp. I'm wondering if I unplug the power to the "sub-amp" will the speakers still work, just without the crappy amplification?

If it's a 1995 I believe each speaker has its own amp, so it would still work fin.

Maybe. My setup had individual amps on both front speakers and then the larger amp with the sub in the back ran the sub and the sail panel speakers. You'll probably just cut or unplug the wires to the sub.

FYI the rearmost speaker in the bose 5-speaker system is a full range speaker. The speakers by the rear seats are the "subs".

This is correct. I was confusing myself with 90% of the other premium sound setups in every other vehicle. The sail panels are in fact mid-bass speakers. Either way it should all be ripped out and new wire to all speakers ran. Bose/Monsoon systems are only a nuisance.

I used to work for a delco audio repair facility in Phoenix. Anytime
a question would come up about a "Bose" head unit, we would tell
them they had to repair it. I have a '96 Z with the Bose system and
the cd player went out. I called Crutchfield and put in a Pioneer
head unit with a bose adapter/harness. It was pretty straight forward,
and sounded better than the bose head unit. Give Crutchfield a call,
maybe you just need the adapter. It was about $35.00 when I got
mine.
