buzz/static

Okey I have buzz/static coming from my front speakers.. it was happening with my stock cd player just not as much.. i replaced it and now its alot worse.. this is a monsoon system on a 98 trans am. The guy I bought it from said it had been screwy ever since they installed the xm radio.. i found an xm radio box laying up against the back of the car so im wondering if I should try disconnecting that.. anything else that would cause this static?

If you changed plugs and wires, it is possible that's what's causing the problem.

Bad ground somewhere possibly... I'd disconnect that box first, see what happens, if the box is touching metal somewhere it may also be causing this static. Are you running any RCA's at all?

If everything was normal before the XM installation then that would be the first thing I checked. Disconnect the power going to it and see what happens. If the XM box is near the analog antenna or antenna cable try moving it away from it.

welcome to the plaque of road noise...... ive had it for about 3 years now.... installed stereo where i have all speakers and subs amped... did the entire install by book running power wires on one side rcas on other... all new wiring everywhere... tried changing grounds all over car and even installed noise filters ... but alas the buzzing continues.... i changed spark plugs twice and still no solution... so ive kinda given up and forget its there...

but ya it sucks... good luck

have you tried running a new ground for the radio? Rockford recommends using a new ground for aftermarket headunits, and not using the ground on the factory wiring, they also recommend running a new ground from the neg cable @ the battery and running it to the chassis but make the cable no longer than 18"

Re: buzz/static

I have the same problem only on the tuner side of my Alpine radio. I tried new wires, moving some 12v items and it got a little better.
