Hey I upgraded my factory bose deck with a eclipse deck. I have heard from a few poeple to get the bose adapter which will make all the speakers sound great. Has anyone heard of this?? If so any links and pricing? Thanks Corey

I've heard the adapter makes the speakers sound like crap. The speakers run at 1ohm I believe, where most aftermarket HU run at 4ohms. So, the speakers will not sound nearly as loud as they would with the stock unit. You'd be better off buying new speakers and maybe an amp to power them.

Bose adapter......?

The Bose setup in the 93-96 camaro has an amp on each speaker, therefore, you can't replace the deck without replacing all of the speakers as well. There are 6.5" in the doors, 6.5" in the middle next to the rear seat, and a sub (6" I believe) in the cargo areo on the left side.

Crutchfeild sells the adapter for the Bose set up. I have never used the adapter before but I hhave used Crutchfield numerous times and they never lead me astray.

This is about as untrue as 4+4=200. You CAN buy an adapter that will enable you to get an amp to power any speaker possible. Which will allow you do have an amazing sounding system with a stock head unit.

adapter

Some people might tell you that you need to replace all the speakers. I am far from a car audio expert, but this is a complete lie. Here is the adapter you need:

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/P...sp?i=142C4GM02

It is the GM02, it has 4 adjustments on it which will allow you to set all your speakers and stock sub up and adjust them appropriately. You do not have the popping sound or volume problems as some of the other adapters used to have from what I hear. I just installed this with my JVC KD-SX9350 mp3 player and although expensive for an adapter, I didn't feel like upgrading all the speakers at this time. Works great!

Good luck,

-Mike

Okay... This thread had brought up some observations and some questions... I have a 94 with the bose tape deck, which I changed out for a Kenwood mp3 player 7019. I never had a problem at all, and never heard of any adapter until now.

The question I have isn't realated to the last comment... my Z only has 2 speakers in the doors and the 6" sub in the back, but to my suprize none in back seat? What is up with that? Did they not put them in with the tape decks or what?

i bought the adapter from crutchfield about a year ago, and i was not happy with it my speakers still sounded like crap. when i ordered it, i called them and asked if it would make them sound better they said yeah but no they were wrong, although i have bought other things from them, this was the only time i had a bad experiece but i sent it back, and just ended up selling the aftermarket Head unit.. didn't want to deal with the replacing all the speaker and amp thing so i just stuck with my stock bose set up which i am happy with now.

i got one of those things too and it was junk. there was always an audible hiss that would never go away. nothign would fix it either so i just ditched it bought 4 new speakers and ran new wiring for each speaker a lot easier and better sounding in my opinion. and my car was a 93 and only had a 3 speaker bose system 2 in the doors and 1 sub. it was junk. it sounded decent but was still worse than my new way

I have the bose setup, in an 87 Camaro... I needed the interface or else the abnormal resistance would fry up the headunit (happend TWICE)

Got the GMAH12 interface (AGAIN, THIS IS FOR A THIRDGEN CAMARO).. so it will probably be a different interface for 4th gens.

And it works GREAT. Very happy with it.

use the interface... or risk burning up an expensive headunit/radio/whatever.

i think there were two kinds of sound systems, the 5 speaker and the 3 speaker system. I'm sure later years have 6 speaker systems.

I have the 10-speaker BOSE system in my '95 TransAm and I'd like to replace the (skipping) headunit only.

So far I've found the PAC OEM-1 and the Crutchfield adapter.

Are instructions to set correct resistance levels included?

More + or - feedback on either adapter please?? Recommend one over the other? BTW, for people who don't like the adapter, is the sound WORSE than stock? My 10spkrs sound fine to me, but I'm no audiophile

thanks, Brian

(replacing 10 speakers & wiring is just too expensive for me now)
