body wire harness question

Hey guys, just gonna throw this one out and see if anyone bites.

BACKGROUND:
I have a 97 donor camaro(body) that I am completely swapping my 94 into(due to wreck in rear); including wires.

PROBLEM:
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to get the body wiring harness out from the engine bay( not engine harness). It goes into the fire wall right beside the brake booster. I am not seeing a way because of how small the opening is here. I really don't want to have to cut it here because it has to be over 50 wires...

WHERE I'M AT:
All wires in the engine bay are free to this point. I have pulled the mount that secures the harness to the firewall. It seems that if i disconnect the fuse box that is in the engine bay that I might be able to pull the harness through.

Please chime in if you know of a better way to pull this harness.

Thanks

Re: body wire harness question

There is a bolt that connects the inside to the outside, very hard to see. I think it is a 7 or 8 mm.

Yes, I have that mount unbolted from the car and pulled apart. It is two pieces with a glue like material inside.

Now I want to pull the harness into the car, but since the hole is only 1.5x3 inches I don't think all the connectors will fit.

I sure there has to be a better way than cutting the harness though.

Thanks for the reply

Re: body wire harness question

I read a thread today stating that if you disconnect the connectors on the inside of the car, you can pull the wiring out through the fire wall into the engine bay.

can anyone verify this? I will take a look for myself tonight.

Here is a link of what I read:

1994 Camaro Fatory Wiring Harness > CS Vette - LS1TECH

Re: body wire harness question

The front body harness is seperate from the interior harness. Once you have them disconnected at the firewall on the drivers side you can start unplugging the brakes, horns, lights, everything in the engine compartment. I start on the passenger side and fish it to the drivers side. It gets tight in the front by the core support. Everything unpluggs and you will be able to seperate the 2 harnesses relatively easy.

This harness has no connector at the fire wall. It Keeps going into the interior. Also I have the entire harness out of the engine bay as stated before.

Thanks for the reply

Re: body wire harness question

Just to lay this dead horse to rest. Following the wires into the interior there are 8 connectors to be unclipped and then one joining block that has to be unbolted. Then the harness can be pulled into the engine bay.
