Best way to stop annoying "rattle" in trunk?
Best way to stop annoying "rattle" in trunk?
You know that rattle that you only hear when you're out side the car....it sounds like metal rattling. Well i just realized how annoying it is and want to fix it. I already put strips of the dynamat stuff all along the hatch but it still rattles. Any other materials or ideas to remove this?

I'm not sure how well all that works though...

They have a product at lowes called Peal and Seal. It is in the roofing section. It is just like dynomat just without the name. It comes in rolls of 6" x 25', cost is $13.

Is it like a thick padding? Because the dynamat stuff ls like a thin gooey thing with some sort of aluminum shell.
Where would i have to apply it to?
Re: Best way to stop annoying "rattle" in trunk?
its the same as dynomat. Gooey thing with some aluminum foil on the back.
I put it all over the vehicle. I strip out the whole interior except dash and start laying it down. You want to cover every part of the body on the inside.

The main source if rattles I found in my hatch was the tail lights and the pastic interior body pieces. I lined each mating seam with some 1/4" x 3/8" foam weatherstripping to fill the seam and buffer the movement; presto no rattles. 3M ruberized undercoating and foam weatherstripping are the main 2 items I use for rattle reduction and noise reduction.

Plastic piece on the hatch. It is held down by clips but when you open the lid you can get it off pretty easily. That thing rattles to hell when it closes. The back CAMARO panel is really bad. And the tailights as mentioned. The side panels in the rear where the speaker grills are located can rattle as well.
Re: Best way to stop annoying "rattle" in trunk?
so i have tried to put weather stripping in places i think will prevent rattle and i have no luck. the piece on the hatch are you saying take that off and put some weatherstripping under there? and i have put weatherstripping around the tailights etc. i seem to have no luck. and ppl around here tell me there is nothing i can do so i have no one to show me how it is done.
Re: Best way to stop annoying "rattle" in trunk?
Well i just put weatherstripping in my large top hatch panel and in my right hatch panel w/the spare tire. It has made a huge difference too. I'm going to attack the rest of the panels later.
chetmoandthecamaro,
Did you use foam weatherstripping? The stuff i used was for camper truck beds, so it was pretty wide and very thick. Just put it anywhere (and i mean anywhere) where metal contacts plastic. You'll probably have to attack a few panels before you get a difference. PM me or 97FormulaWS-6 if you have any questions.
Who needs dynamat? 2 rolls cost me $11.
