Hi,
I have a 94 Camaro Z28 with Pioneer REV coaxials, and was thinking of upgrading to components. I would like to know what the best location would be for proper imaging of the tweeters.

I do not plan to buy door pods, and would not like to cut into my door panels to mount them there. The mids will be in the stock 6 3/4" locations in the doors.

I guess a better question would be, where can I mount them, get decent imaging, and not have to chop up anything in my interior?

Put them in your kick panels. I did my old firebird that way. Mids in the doors and tweets in the kicks. It didn't image as well as a full kickpanel setup, but it worked well. If you're all tortured about putting a hole in the kicks, buy a spare set. They're cheap and easy to replace.

 

Mounting them in the A-pillars is a good way to bring the soundstage up. To do that with them in kicks would require great angling and alot of sound dampeneing under the dash. If you are wanting accurate imaging, you need to look to the midrange position for that as it hold much of the responsibility of placing the majority of the sound.

 

How do you mount tweeters in the A pillar?

 

i put mine in the a/c vents, doesnt block flow of a/c at all and they are hidden there

 

There are a few options, the simplest of which is to cut a hole on the big flat area and just glue them in. Other meathods include fiberglass and/or bodyfiller.

 

Please don't mount them in the a-pillar. Your going to hate it. Your sound is going to arive at your ears at 4 different times. The closer the better and the less time delay there is. Idealy you want the tweeter above the midbass. Hope this helps
