Battery Question

Ok, im not sure if this is even in the right lobby cus its not audio related but it's closest thing to it.

My question is somewhat newbish but here it is: What should be connected to the negative terminal on my battery. I mean, i know something should be connected back to it, but when i bought this car theres just no negative wires running back to the battery, the terminal is empty. Am i right in saying that its really nothing more than a ground and anything that runs off the battery being grounded instead of runnin back to the battery gives the same results? I ask because it seems like my battery is not staying charged and i need to be recharging it once a week or i cant start. Does the negative have to be connected from the alternator or whatever for the battery to recharge itself?

If there is a better forum for me to be asking this please tell me. But i'll appreciate any answers, thankyou.

well, usually the battery is connected to a ground somewhere on the car. Just run some cable to the factory ground. If the battery does hold the charge, take it to get tested to see if it'll hold a charge. if it does, then it might be your alternator
