Anyone know where the alarm is installed?
Anyone know where the alarm is installed?
I'm not 100% sure if this is the right forum for this question, but I have a 96 Z28 and the kid that I bought it from had a Viper alarm/autostart put in. Now, the autostart feature isnt working and the alarm is acting funny in that the light is always on, even while driving, regardless of whether the alarm was set or not. I want to know if anyone else has one of these and knows where it is in the car to disconnect it or remove it. Any help is appreciated.
Re: Anyone know where the alarm is installed?
the stock alarm/keyless module is in the passenger side kick panel, but usually aftermarket alarms done by install shops are under the steering column behind the driver knee bolster. another real common place for an aftermarket alarm in an f-body is behind the glovebox. once you take off a panel of two, you'll see where there are wires and relays that dont look factory, then just follow them.
Re: Anyone know where the alarm is installed?
Aftermarket alarms can be installed about anywhere
Your best bet is to pull down the knee bolster under the steering wheel and see what there is to see. If you don't see the actual "brain" you might see a shock sensor that you can trace back to the brain.
I'll move this over to the Electronics forum. Good luck!

Re: Anyone know where the alarm is installed?
to answer the second part of your problem....the alarm is probably in Valet mode. which will cause the LED light to constantly stay lit while driving. Sit with the car off, and on the remote press lock, unlock, lock, unlock, really fast. (I think that's how you do it) If that doesn't work, stick the key in the ignition and turn the ignition on, off, on, off, really fast. I know one of these methods, or something similar, is the proper procedure for Viper alarms.
