anyone know about cig lighters?

ok.... so i got tired of switching between my radar detector and phone charger in my car, so i had botu one of those 2-1 cig lighter things, everytime i plugged inthe second adapter... the fuse would blow. did this three times so i dwent back to swapping back and fourth. well i ran across a thing to splice the original wires to make 2 seperate lighters.... so i connected it. and neither works. the fuse is good... any ideas? what have you guys done to have more than 1 12v in your car? i was thnking just making a seperate fuse for it... how would i go about doing this...?

What fuse was blowing? Was it the fuse in the car's fuse box, or the fuse in the power adapter for your radar detector or cell phone?

If it is the fuse in your car's fuse box, make sure it is the correct amperage. I'd be surprised if a cell phone and a radar detector would draw enough current to blow the fuse. Do you have any other devices spliced into the power going to the cigarette power outlet?

it was the car fuse that was blowing.the fuses in both are fine, i hooked em up to my dads car to test. but it is a 25 fuse, as stated on the box cover. and i thought it was kind of odd for it to be blowing cuz i know like 3 people who use the 2-1 cig lighters, and a couple who use 3-1s... and they never blow fuses. so i dont know what the deal is... my whole cig lighter is undergoing maintenance cuz i was trying to splice the wire using a kit from pep boys. but even that doesnt work. and like i said, neither cig lighter works now... so im at a complete lose of ideas on whats wrong....

When you use the 2-1 adapter, are you always plugging the second device into the same side of the adapter? Maybe the 2-1 adapter is faulty and is causing a short?

That would have been useful information to include in your first post. You have a short. It's time to chase wires.

Haha! If you've been experiencing problems in the past, it might not be a bad idea to just run a new wire.
