Amp suggestions?
Amp suggestions?
I've recently purchaced a pair each of MB Quarts 5.25" and 4" Discus line speakers for my 1981 Mercedes. For christmas I'll likely be getting a new head unit. I'm wondering if I should also get a 4 channel amp for these speakers, but am not sure what to look for.
The 4" are rated for 30-70w and the 5.25"s are rated for 35-90. Assuming the head unit I get will be ~50x4, should I be looking into an amp? And if so, what size?
---
Second question. I'd like to add some bottom end to the sound. Being that I mostly listen to bebop and cool jazz (40's and 50's) I'm interested in a clean, quality natural sound. Would a single, high quality 10" be likely to do the job?
----
Edit:
After reading a couple of other messages in this forum, I'm starting to wonder if I made the wrong choice in going with the 5.25" coax speakers in the rear. Should I look into exchanging them for a set of separates and dumping the tweeter portion? Or is there a way to easily disable the tweeter portion without damaging the speakers?

All head units have there power rating in MAX value. It probably does 20-25 watts RMS. What size amp would be best? As big as you can afford! I'm sure sooner or later you will upgrade and need (or want) more power.
Also, make sure you are looking at the RMS output of the amp not Peak or Max.
