Check, that you have +12v on remote turn-on wire on your amp while headunit in CD mode.

Its on until you start to play a cd. Then does it shut-off or does a red light come on?

sounds like a headunit problem. your remote wire is working properly when the radio is playing the radio. It sounds like your remote wire isn't getting power once the cd player changes to cd mode. Get a multimeter and test your remote wire for power in cd mode.

Does your head unit have an option to toggle your remote power? if not you might need to replace it.

some head units have both a Power antenna wire(blue) and ampturn(blue/white) if you are on P.A. when you switch to cd it powers down. If it only has a P.A. wire then you can A) change the radio setting to stay on regardless of source, if possible or B) find an accesory power wire (red wire)
