Amp installation help please

Ok first off my sister wants me to install a sub and amp in her 2002 z28. I was thinking of going with this sub http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jmGQFO2...00&I=575P210S4
and this amp http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jmGQFO2...00&I=575P210S4
. It will be a single 10 setup. Im gonna build a box to go in that little cubby on the driver's side. First question is where do you guys recommend installing the amp (other than spare tire area)?? Second question is where do i run the remote turn on for the amp??

Re: Amp installation help please

If I'm just adding an amp to the factory setup, if she's got a power antenna then I tap into that, if not, any Ingition/Accessory hot will work just fine as well. If it's off of an aftermarket HU, then there should be a remote wire from the HU.

You're going to need an Install Kit (All the wires), plus a Line-Level converter as well to make it work properly off of a stock HU.

Re: Amp installation help please

Might not need the line level converter if the amp allows for high level inputs. You could go with a basic amp install kit which should contain all the wiring you need. Make sure you get power/ground cable that is a suitable size for the amount of power your going to be pushing. Crutchfield has good info on selecting the size wire. As for the remote turn-on signal for the amp like already stated either use the wire going to a power antenna or you could try and determine which wire in the radio's harness is the ignition/accessory wire and tap off of that. Only problem with tapping off the Ignition/accessory wire is that the amp will turn on with the car and stay on whether radio is on or off. Not really a "PROBLEM" for say but, not typically an intended result.

You didn't have a link for the amp, only two for the sub..This is what I would push that sub w/...
Seeng as the sub has 50-200 Wrms and a peak of 400. That and the amp will function 4 ohm in single channel bridged @200 Wrms. And the sub is single VC @ 4ohm... If you push too much twords the max power you will kill the speaker quicker...Just my opinion...That should sound fine though. As far as wiring to a stock sterio, I've been stumped on that for years......??

Amp mounting....you can make a rack for the back wall. something like This...It will stay out of the way of the t-tops and you'll still have trunk space

Re: Amp installation help please

you need a LOC(line output converter)

plugs in line with the stock headunit, allows for hookup of rca's for an amplifier. then all you must do it get remote wire power and ground to amp and you are set.
