Is this amp any good?

I seem to have killed my current and amp and am looking to get a new one.

I am eyeing this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ythybca...p?I=158XMDS16P

I have two 12" JLAudio W3s Specs
Pictures in the car: 1, 2

I have them wired in series so that the amp receives a 4 ohm load.

Does that seem like a good amp for a decent price?

SONY used to make high quality car audio gear. Not so anymore. I would recommend getting another amp.

Which model sub are you using? Dual 2ohm? Dual 4ohm? You can't just wire them in series to get a 4ohm load. It would take some combination of series and parallel wiring to get a 4ohm load.

Definitely go with a high dollar amp such as a JL. They have regulated power supplies that will give you the same output from 9v to 15v, they also have a regulated output which will give you the same (500w RMS) whether you have a 1 ohm load or an 8 ohm load on the amp. These are the best on the market at this point.

I don't know how much you want to spend, but the only amps I use or will ever use are Precision Power.Over the years I have tried alot of amps and have killed most of them. They might cost a little more, but IMO they are some of the best out there.
Sound quality is excellent and if you get the Q-Bass remote for them you can adjust the bass to you liking.

Yes, Sony's audio line has gone downhill since the mid '90s; stay away, far far away...

I don't know how you guys kill amps, I've only blown 2 in 10 years of doing car stereos.

The ones that I prefer:
PPI
Orion
Zapco
JL
Kicker
Hifonics
Audiobahn - budget only
Infinity Beta series (One of the best amps ever made)
Xtant
Soundstream

There are a few others that I life, but those are the main ones. I was running an Audiobahn and Kicker amp, I'm now running 3 Hifonics amps.

Re: Is this amp any good?

Thanks for the input guys.

After shopping around, I stumbled upon a Diamond Audio D3 600.1 Amp. It's a mono amp able to produce 600 Watts RMS X 1.

http://www.diamondaudio.com/MobileAu...nfo.cfm?id=104

The store had it listed for $320 but I was able to talk them down to $280, plus I picked up some Monster M-Series Pro RCA cables for $50.
