aftermarket cd changer question

If I use a digital protocol adapter to put a Kenwood cd changer in my camaro, do I have to disconnect the headunit cd player? I was on the p.i.e website, and it sounds like if I want to use the wiring in the car, I cant use the cd headunit. Anyone know about this?

The factory CD HU didn't have changer controls until about midway thru the 99 model year. I don't know how to determine which ones will and which won't control the changer though.

My car is a 2000, and the cd head unit says "aux" on it.
