Angry Aftermarked Head Unit flickers and cuts out

I have a 94 Z28 camaro, and i installed a Pioneer Head unit in it. FOr the longest time now, i will be listening to a cd, and all of a sudden it cuts out, and stops playing. The face plate will flicker on and off, but no sound will be played, The radio will then work, but the cd player wont. I have sent this head unit back four times now and every time they have replaced the laser. Why is this happening?!? this head unit was in two other vehicles and this never happened in them. Any ideas? <NO money for a new one, can this be fixed?>

i would check your ground to the deck, maybe run a new ground but keep the wire as short as possible. usually when you have a bad ground on a deck you will get the deck flashing on/off.

I’m with Javelin3o4 on this. It may be an install problem. How are all the power connections? Did you twist and tape the connections or crimp/solder them? How did you ground the HU? I haven’t seen any problems like this with the DEH-P7400mp. Maybe a bad connection to the faceplate, try and see if you can get it to cut out by wiggling the faceplate while the unit is on. Where are you sending it for the repairs?

at work probably about 8 times out of 10 when a deck would flicker on/off it was most of the time due to a bad ground to the deck, i would just try running a new ground.

If you're grounding to the chassis BE SURE you sand down the surface you're grounding it to. Sometimes the metal will look like it is bare, but it is really painted a greyish metallic color.
