96 Bose/AC Delco plays CDRs?

I think something is wrong with my Head Unit. I just bought a 96 z28. It only has 21k miles on it and it played a CDR once and won't accept it ever since. Also when CDs are scratched it keeps spitting them out with ERR. They are minor scratches. Is there a way to clean the laser or is the headunit crap? I like the way it sounds so I don't want to go with an aftermarket. Would picking up another used head unit fix my problem or is this a common problem that i will run into if i purchase a used unit. The system has the Bose subwoofer in the hatch driver's side.

I have a 96 Z with the Bose unit and have had no problems with cdrs the laser is very sensitive to scratches, smudges, or dust so make sure your cd is in goo shape an maybe pickup a lens cleaning cd and it should be straight. I wouldnt trade my bose out I love the sound.
