6 1/2" speakers installed in a 6 3/4" opening?

I want to buy new speakers for my Camaro, there really aren't any 6 3/4" speakers that I like. But there are a few 6 1/2" speakers I do want to buy. Can I get the 6 1/2" speakers installed in my car without buying a kit or plate that will make them fit. I thought that most 6 1/2" speakers mountinga plates were wide enough for a 6 3/4" installation.

I need help fast since I plan on buying the speakers within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance.

i put fockford fosgate 6.5" in the middle, I had to use a self tapping screw, ......er something like that. It will work well if u make holes accordingly.

Weird, I always thought, and from experience, I never had any trouble installing 6.5s into 6.75 opennings. I really thought that the 6.5" speakers were made to fit. Guess I was wrong. Oh well, like said it should work with minimal modification.

I will tell you Focal 165K2 fit in my 2000 SS door fine. And they are about the cleanest sounding components I have ever heard at any volume.

THey are also called OVERsized 6.5's. alot of companies call them this, forgot to mention it earlier. Normail 6.5's should not fit unless they are oversized.
