5 speakers down and the last one standing on 1 leg. Need HELP!!!

97 TA... All speakers are blown and do not work. I have 1 speaker left in the front that only the treble works. Im lloking for something just to replace the front door speakers and the rear seat speakers. They are 6 3/4 speakers, right? Could I use standard 6 1/2? Do they make an adapter to do this and still make a nice solid mount? Would like somewhat of a mild system with no subwoffer or amp. Maybe a new head unit? I would like to keep the factory streering controls working though.

Im trying to keep weight down since I do mostly drag racing with the car. But enough is enough. I can bearly hear anything out of 1/2 of a speaker.

Any opinions? Thanks in Advance!

are you sure they are blown....the speakers themselves....

i had a stereo that had blown channels and all the speakers were good....

if u need speakers your best bet is to look for guys parting their cars out in the for sale section or check out ebay....

post an ad in the wanted to buy section...

if your not sure try taking another speaker and wire it up to where the current one is working to test it out

hope that helps at least a little bit

Most of the "bigger" brands of aftermarket 6 1/2" speakers will also fit the 6 3/4" holes for your cars.

In the Firebird and T/A cars, the doors are 6 3/4" component speakers meaning a seperate midrange and tweeter speaker. I purchased a set of 6 1/2" component speakers and mounted them right into place.

The middle set of speakers (beside the back seats) is a standard two-way 6 3/4 speaker, again, I purchased 6 1/2 two ways and was fine.

Not all 6 1/2 speakers will fit the holes right. Just read the description slosely, as they will usually tell you.

Wow, you got almost no response on this one. Time for a fellow Texan to save the day . I would say your best option will be to replace the head unit and use it's internal amp to power the new speakers, this will require you running the cables though. The stock speakers come in funky ohms and make it impossible to replace them with anything but stock speakers, unless you do what I stated above. Plus you can remove all that wiring and the POS monsoon amp and save yourself a few pounds. You could also lose the rear speakers all together, I don't run any in my system just some MBQuarts components up front. Give us a budget and whether you wanna run rears or not and then we'll be able to give you some better advice.

Back in the day, I use to spend upwards of $6000 for a system. A Nice Clarion Pro Amp, MB Quart, Punch Amps, JL Audio, well you get the pic.

I had bought some Eclipse 6 1/2 speakers to use in the rear seating area and they wouldnt mount up without making a mounting bracket. And besides they sounded horrible with the stock system.

Im looking to probably spend $500 total. I dont want to spend alot of money on a sytem since I spend all my money racing. But believe me this 1/2 speaker crap is getting old.

I would like to purchase a head unit, speakers for the front and rear seating area and possible an amp. I do have the factory Delco amp in the car now. I really dont want to weigh it down with a bunch of stereo eqiupment. probably coaxil speakers and not componets. Dont think my $500 budget would allow it.

I could go with a new head unit, components up front and an amp? Or something. Well anyways what do you guys think?

You'll definately be able to save yourself some money if you are wanting to just run front speakers. Removing all the other speakers/wiring/amp will net you about 25-30 lbs. That should help with the weight. You'll be running new wiring from you head unit to the speakers anyway. $500 isn't alot, if you are just wanting something, I would get a head unit that atleast has a HPF and a set of coaxials up front and call it a day. You can add on later if you would like to. I have done setups that are totally removable in 5 min. with 2 amps and a stealth box. I'll do some thinking on what can be done with your budget.
