2 Ohm vs. 4 Ohm

I am redoing the system that is in my car. I'm replacing two 10's with one 10 in the stealth box, but I am not sure which sub to get for it. I am looking at the kicker CompVR 07CVR102 sub, but should I get the 2 or 4 ohm sub? My current amp is a kicker IX402 that is about six years old, not sure of the power specs off the top of my head. It works pretty good with the two RF subs I got now, so I wasn't planning on changing the amp right now. Either way, any suggestions?

Here is a link to the sub I'm lookin at:

Thanks.

Ok, here is the amp I have:

that sub and amp do not match up good at all. You could run it on one tho.

10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils
power handling: 50-400 watts RMS

here is one option but ull only get 40 watts to it RMS

You cant even get the DVC 4 ohm version because u would have to play it at 8 0hm load to ur amp. And ur amp is not capable.

Just save ur self a headach and get a bigger amp

To get the most from that amp you would need to get the sub with dual 2 ohm voice coils. Connect the voice coils in series for a 4 ohm load and bridge the amp to mono. That way your sub will get 120 watts.

and it will sound like crap too with that little power.

With car audio, its better to just do it right the first time instead of wasting money on stuff that you wont like and will have wasted time and money on.

I dont know what your budget is like, but if you can spring for about 300 bucks, you can get something that you will love and keep for years. Or you can spend 150.00 - 200.00 and get something you dont like, sounds like crap, and will be replacing next year. What is your budget by the way?

I am planning on replacing the amp, but not right now due to budget reasons. Hopefully by the end of summer/fall I will have a new amp. I need to replace my subs because the seal around the subs is busted from old age and they sound horrible. So I was planning on switching to the single sub/new box and replacing the amp later in the year. I don't use the sub all that much, just for some moderate bass.

Save your money and get one of these subs:
https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraud...iew.shopscript

or for 70 bucks more

And one of these amps:

Either of those subs will make you very happy. Its not very mainstream but mainstream stuff is usually overpriced and crappy quality. The amp is decent, nothing special. But you dont necessarily need the best sound quality amp for subs since any sound quality difference will be unnoticable to the ear. Just need something that does its rated power, is somewhat efficient, and has decent quality. If you are willing to buy used stuff, you can get great deals too.

Good luck

Screw getting a 2 channel amp and bridging it. Get a mono Class-D subwoofer amp instead.

Man, you can get 2 12's all day long CVR's, no sale for 140.00 or under. The deal for 129 isnt a big deal. They are decent budget subs. I'd rather just get one or 2 good subs for 200 - 250 each and have the baddest **** out there.

ok, so I might be able to afford a new amp with this setup too. Taking into account the subs are buy one get one, my sub will be virtually free after selling the other one. I was looking at a Kicker amp, ZX300.1 or the ZX400.1. What do you guys think?

Thanks.

Alpine or Infinity. All the way... Even the new stuff from Kenwood sounds great.

that amp you have = bad news for business

do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again.

Look into a Kicker CVT 10 and power it with a Kicker ZX300.1 or ZX400.1. They sound really good and deep in a very small enclosure. I have put them in as little as .3 cuft and they play great. THey would sound far better than the CVR in a stealth box.
