Z06 Corvette

Well over the weekend I ran into a person who had an opportunity to sneak around a little at one of the GM plants. What he came across is a Z06 Corvette he said that the car did have the 7.0 engine along with a all aluminum frame and a carbon fiber body. He also said the car should sell for around 80 grand. This may be old info and forgive me if it is, but I can say if this person told me this info than it is true.

Re: Z06 Corvette

I thought it was the general understanding that the Z06 would cost less than a Viper, however, if the entire thing is carbon fiber, that might drive the cost up.

Re: Z06 Corvette

Yeah, if there are going to be so many Vettes on the road, why would one pay 80k for one when they can go with the more exclusive Viper? Obviously if you're dedicated to GM or Corvette, you'd want one, but unless you understand that the Vette weighs less and will be faster, I would figure most would take the Viper based on its low production numbers.

If it's really going to be priced at 80k, I don't think they'd see near the sales as they would if it were 60-70K. Obviously, that is a major bargain, but bargains sell.

Re: Z06 Corvette

If you make me choose between the "everybody drives one" corvetter or the "God dam what kind of car is that" Viper I'd go on looks totally.

Honestly I would not take the viper to a race track. err wait if I was filthy rich I may.

Re: Z06 Corvette

If GM puts out the high performance vette model for anything over 65k they are really shooting themselves in the foot. What do 04 Z06s cost, like 53k? If GM does do this they need to release another mid level vette for around that price.

But damn, a 2800lb Vette?

You take the Viper (aka, the pig) and i'll take the Vette and run 'em for ever how much you want... any where you want. AutoX, road course, drag strip, Bonneville......

80k? Was anyone else a little dismayed at that price? I wonder how many people would actually pay for that, especially since it is now in the price group of other exotics....

Re: Z06 Corvette

I don't care, I'd have a Viper and you'd still just have a Corvette

BTW, show me an official figure that says it will be 2800 lbs and I'll shut my yapper.

Re: Z06 Corvette

$80K sounds tooooo high. That is a $36K jump from a base price. One of the reasons the C5 Z06 was so successful was due to the price. I think $59,995 should be the Vette teams target price if they want this thing to be as admired as the C5 Z06.

I doubt this "all" true , but if it were . The new Z06 will look exclusive enuff , I mean unlike before you WILL immediatly know its a Z06 . And at 2800 lbs with 500 hp , it would spank one hell of a mudhole on a viper and will still most likely be 10 times more enjoyable to drive . If that were all true , it would still be a relative bargain at $80K . Carbon fiber body , aluminum frame , handbuilt all forged 7 liter ....I dont think chevy would have too much trouble selling everyone they can build .

Re: Z06 Corvette

Carbon fiber body and under 80k you say? Prehaps CF panneles, but the whole body?
Lets take a look at some CF cars..

Ferrari Enzo
McLaren F1
...ill just leave it at thoes 2 to show you that there is no way possible that this car will go for under 200k if they used CF.
Aluminum body I can belive....but the CF body....nah. Perhaps deck lid and hood like the CE Z06's.
and 80k? I would still buy it over a Viper becaue it would be much faster, despite "cool" factory of a Viper. Its about speed, and it would be a Z06, not just some regular Vette.
If that rule applied, no one would want a Ford GT over a Ferrari 360.

Re: Z06 Corvette

80K is steep, if true...some of the competition really starts to look good at that price

It says aluminum frame and carbon fiber body in the first post.

I doubt it will cost $80k, unless that ends up being the Blue Devil Model, and a ZO6 comes in some form under it.
