Money being no object, I'd still rather have the Porsche.

Seriously. I've driven a Z51 C6 and its a beast but it handles incredibly for its size. (Out handled anything else I've driven.) However I can't believe its as nimble as a 911. The 911's historically have an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution. No matter how light the Z06 is over the Z51 C6, its still loaded with weight over the front wheels. However when you factor price into the equation, the Z06 is the best back for the buck of any supercar.

Um, nope.

Corvettes have been historically near 50/50.

911's have been more like 40/60, rear-biased.

Which is why the phrase "part-throttle oversteer" became part of the motoring lexiconography.

I'm pretty sure the Z06 is 50/50 at worse 51/49

Thank you.

911 near 50/50?! I think not. I think I've seen OVER 60% at the rear for rear drive 911s (39/61, 38/62, give or take). The extra hardware up front on the AWD cars probably puts them closer to 40/60.

FWIW I found one source that said the Cayman S has a weight distribution of 45/55.

Cayman and Boxster are mid-engined.

Porsche, being stupid (er, I mean, enamored of tradition), decided to keep the completely retarded rear-engine layout for the 911.

So the 911 has much worse weight distribution than the Cayman or Boxster--but at least you can see the engine without putting the car on a lift.

Certainly possible. But the Cayman is a mid engined car, like the Boxster. The 911 engine sits all the way behind the rear axle, facing backwards.

Good for braking numbers and traction at launch, bad for lift throttle situations while cornering...

The mid engine is better for the track, but the rear engine may be better for all around usage. It allows for much more luggage space, and it makes for a quieter car, because the engine is farther away. Also, the rearward weight bias is great for standing start acceleration.

The main problem is instability caused by all that weight in the back wanting to move ahead of the front. But with stability controls, even that is under control.

Bring back the Corvair!

A design that you have to band-aid is NOT a good design.

But I will soften it a bit. Instead of "completely retarded," how about "inherently flawed?"

If the band-aid covers the flaw effectively, then what's wrong with that, if it allows you to make use of the advantages?

I've never been a big fan of the 911 (out of my price league, if not to buy then to maintain), but the latest generation sure seems to work effectively.

True…911s are notorious for winding up ***-backwards which is usually caused by lifting your foot off the throttle at precisely the time you should be applying power.
