Seems almost like a "reverse" Halo car.
I don't know about that. I think people will buy it more as a second car than a primary daily driver. When someone comes in to buy a GTO or whatever, sees the solstice, it may stick in their mind. Then a few months or whatever goes by and they have and extra bit of money to spend they may opt for a fun little summer cruiser that doesn't cost too much.

I like Dougs version better. Yours looks like a woman without legs.

Re: You'll be able to get Solstice - "race ready"

I see one daunting problem with GM taking the SCCA showroom-stock spec-B crown away from the miata crowd. The obvious weight difference between the two cars.

Production convertible versions.
Solstice - 2,866lbs
new mita - around 2,469lbs (Mazda said it is 22lbs heavier than current miata which is 2,447lbs).

A difference of 397lbs. Given the fact that the next gen miata will get atleast a 160+hp 2.0 minimum as a base motor, will 17 extra hp and the extra tq of the 2.4 ecotec be enough to offset the obvious weight difference?

And that new rx8 platform is nothing to sneeze at either. Even a fixed/removable hardtop (something miata will offer as well) most likely won't be enough to make up for the weight difference.

I didn't mind the weight at first, but it does seem a bit porky for what it is and that makes it a bit harder to dominate or take away the crown from the Miata in that SCCA class.

Still, a coupe version would make for a nice addition to the lineup. Even better if they can find a way to undercut the convertible in terms of price. It makes the Solstice even that much more of a bargain.
