You want good press....build sensational cars.
The Autoextremist on the CTSv:
Cadillac. Publisher's Note: This week, our "First Impressions" feature covers the CTS-V....The AE editors are unanimous about one thing - the Cadillac CTS-V is a sensational car. We had the pleasure of driving the hot-rod version of the Cadillac CTS last week, and we loved the car. Not just "liked" or even the half-assed, apologetic appraisal of "it's pretty good" - no, we loved everything about it. Taut and muscular, the CTS-V is an irreverent rebuttal to the idea that high-performance sedans can only originate in Germany. Actually, it's an extended middle finger to that idea, as the CTS-V satisfied us on every level, from it's arresting "Red Line" premium metallic paint (a $995.00 option) and detailed front aero package, down to its 4-piston Brembo brakes with vented rotors on all four corners that filled-up the beautiful six-spoke, six-lugged, 18 X 8.5" alloy wheels perfectly. This CTS-V combines raucous American attitude with impressive chassis dynamics tuned at the Nurburgring to deliver an exceedingly pleasing high-performance package that makes you want to drive it harder and faster every time you get behind the wheel. This car exudes passion and personality - and after spending some quality time with the CTS-V you just know the people behind it are some of GM's most passionate and uncompromising car guys. If you can't break into a big grin when you feel the thrust of the 5.7-liter 400HP LS6 V-8, or better yet when you hear the magnificent sound it makes, then it's time to start taking the bus. We've driven the BMW "M" cars, and they're great machines, but there's something refreshingly bad-*** about the CTS-V that made us keep coming back for more. Our only quibble? We thought the light neutral interior was all wrong and did nothing for the overall look and feel of the interior (actually, for us, the interior remains Cadillac's weakest area - it's not quite there in terms of the elegance and refinement found in vehicles of this caliber). Our CTS-V stickered for $53,680.00, including the destination charge, but then again, you can't put a number on a car's soul. Come to think about it, just to mention the words "passion," "soul" and "Cadillac" in the same sentence is testament to just how far GM's luxury division has come in the last four years. And make no mistake, the Cadillac CTS-V bristles with passion, performance, personality and soul. - PMD
Re: You want good press....build sensational cars.
On the way to work this morning I was trailing a black CTS-V . First time I have ever been by one driving , and hear the exhaust and stuff . I just can't get over how wierd it is to see 100% attitude caddy , bangin gears in between stoplights
Re: You want good press....build sensational cars.
Who wouldn't enjoy the free use of a CTS-V from GM's press fleet? If If I had the free use of a CTS-V from GM's press fleet, I'd probably enjoy it. If my continued access to free cars from GM's press fleet depended on a positive review, I probably would rave and gush about how wonderful it was to drive a free CTS-V!
In the real world, where people actually have to pay for their cars a CTS-V is a $53,680 joke. Why would I part with $54K for a CTS with pretty much the same drivetrain as a $24K Camaro Z28 from 2002?

Yup, it's a whole 'nuther car. Of course, if your definition of "world class chassis" has something to do with exploding rear differentials......

You know what I think? I'm going to tell you whether you want to know or not. I think you revel and enjoy your position as Mr. Negative around here. Everybody gives you crap about it, but it gives you the attention you crave. it makes feel relevant here.
Its old, its really old. Cut it out, or go away.
These people review cars for a living, EVERY CAR THEY DRIVE is free use thereof. Not to mention if a car was nothing more than a drivetrain then our F-bodies would still be selling like hotcakes, woudn't they? The logical fallacy of your statement is glaring. The CTS-v is a great car in a holistic sense, quality, ergonomics, packaging, etc....the great drivetrain is only one part of a great car.

They didn't explode...some seized due to improper ring gear lash, though. It was a supplier assembly issue, since corrected.
But on the topic of exploding diffs..............

Re: You want good press....build sensational cars.
Did I miss something? When did Car and Driver, MT, etc. start PAYING for their test cars?
redzed, you are making it way too easy these days. Are you trying to become infamous on the net or something so you can write a moronic book later in life and let your fame/notoriety push its sales?
As you so elegantly pointed out, it was a press fleet car. You know, to be used by the press. The same cars that are driven by the major car magazines, etc. So whenever someone praises a GM car now, it is because GM "let" them use a press fleet car? Gee, if it were that easy, I'd have assumed that the CTS-V would finish ahead of the Audi S4 V8 in the last comparo Car and Driver did. Maybe the guys from Audi let the CandD testers use their "press fleet" car AND let them sleep with their wives or something...

Gee redzed, I'm begining to think my past harsh remarks towards your "laspes" were love taps compared with what you seem to be getting nowadays!
You bring it on yourself, my friend. I really believe you do it on purpose, because I've seen you post some intellegent cohesive thoughts. But then you quickly follow it up with the most boneheaded statements & opinions, along with the most unbelieveably twisted, irrational, stupid outlooks I have ever heard from any biped that's not attached to a feeding tube. Either you are purposely yanking everybody's chain getting a masochistic kick being humiliated, or the docs need to up your dosage of lithium.....alot!
Good stories because a magazine wants to continue getting press cars?
Actually thinking a Camaro is a subsitute for a Cadillac CTS?
Even I think the CTS-V is seriously overpriced, but I don't have to make stuff up or come up with ridiculous comparisons to get that point across. And even then, I'll still say it's an awesome car on it's own.
No doubt you'll thrive off all this, because you keep coming back.
