I think this is the essence of pony cars. I look at them constantly, and it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to find a 5.0 Mustang or 3rd gen around here that is not modded somehow. Newer cars like the SN95's and 4th gens are frequently modded too. The correlation seems to be keeping mods low-dollar while under warranty (and making payments). But as soon as those payments are gone, or the 100k mile barrier is broken - the engines come out and the goodies go on.
The aftermarket size itself speaks volumes about modding. It also helps you get more intimate with your car IMO. You get to know what your car has to offer and how it behaves to certain mods. I think that makes people bond to their cars - the become "personalized".

I think there would likly be a period of time that the aftermarket would need to catch up after the F5 is released... so there would probably be a period of time where there is little to nothing to modify (easily anyway).
I would consider some light mods... easy bolt on stuff...

My goal here was to see how important modifing your modern muscle car is. Its the reason I went with a Ls1 car in the first place. Until the 03 Cobra came along mustangs needed to much to hit my target ETs and HP #s.
I voted for major bolt ons...
That's the direction I took with my Formula...heads, cam, full exhaust...etc...
While under warranty I probably wouldn't go beyond headers/cold air for the engine; but suspension wise, if I know GM I'd guess that I'd need some stiffer springs/capable shocks, big sway bars, big front brakes and bigger/wider wheels and sticky tires...
I have no problem whatsoever modding a $30k car, hell that's half the fun of owning it

I love a classic car that is in pure stock form... I can say the same for a modern car as well.
Depends on what the stock rating is. I'd think GM would try and match the Cobra somwhere in the f-bod lineup. If that's the case, a stock 400hp 5th gen would do till the warranty runs out. 400hp is plenty fast and more than decent for a street car. I'd wait the 3 years and then go all out after that.
Since most of you guys chose boltons of some level, how important is the way the car responds to minor boltons? Would it change your mind on buying a 5th gen if the Ford camp had a more bolt on friendly Mustang? (2003 Cobra)
