I hope they don't have any quality problems building to cars at once.....like paint peel.

How so?

There's quite a few plants today that build multiple vehicles on the same assembly line....... let alone the same plant.

Maybe the guys putting together the G6 (upcoming GXP variant looks like a go) should be worried.....

I like the GP but unlike the Bonneville, the replacement in the wings looks to be a very desirable product - let's hope it works out so well that no one will lament the passing of the GP. Bring on the VE/Zetas.....
Easiest and cheapest way to expand a vehicle's intrest and extend it's life an extra couple of years is to add a performance version. Think mid-90s Impala SS. Caprice benefited from it.

Agreed on all counts, but I was really not being serious, I was trying to be tongue in cheek with my assessment....

Caprice might not have needed quite so much help if the 91 redesign had been anywhere near flattering or attractive. While true that the basic styling of the 77 downsized model was pretty tired by 1990 (being unchanged for 13 years will do that), the redo was absolutely horrible. I'm still amazed that many people were so fooled as to not see what the SS for what it really was - an appearance package (with some performance) for the Caprice and not a whole new car -blows my mind. I'd consider one but only the 96 version. GM needs that kind of smoke and mirrors magic again.

I suppose it is true that market-appeal has waned a fair amount for the GP as it did for the Bonnie, although I'm not sure why, the Bonnie was still a fairly current/attractive car if a little overwrought - especially inside. I'm not sure how the GXP variant has done for GP sales-wise, but IIRC, the GXP Bonneville sold a pretty healthy percentage of the Bonnevilles sold in 2004. The figure eludes me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I saw it here on cz28.

I do know that I have yet to see a GXP of either model on the road here in my neck o' the woods.

Let's not forget the GXP Solstice. My girlfriend test drove one and was very impressed. We plan on buying one for 2008.
