By year end GP GXP dies........

...should the Impala SS or LaCrosse Super get some or all of it's choice parts?

Of course the split sized tires required new fenders for the GXP.

Why is it being killed off? The G8's still a few years away isn't it?

I wouldn't think new fenders on the whole would be too big an investment, plus giving the Impala some real street cred wouldn't hurt it's new NASCAR image either.

I'd say put the new fenders on, put on all the GXP's go fast(er) goddies and continue to get a return on the GXP development investment.

Or how about the Monte Carlo SS?

Also I guess we know the LaCrosse Super isn't getting it because all the mules that have been seen were wearing Impala SS rims and tires.

The GP is being killed off because Oshawa is being shut down at the end of November to begin conversion to build the new RWD cars. That's a big conversion and it'll take several months. Aren't all the other Oshawa cars dying at the same time? Is there another plant that produces the Monte and the Impala and the Lacrosse?

Supposedly the Aussie G8 will be here by this time next year.

Montes and Impalas are assembled in Oshawa number 1 and the GP and Lacrosse/Allure are assembled in Oshawa 2. This is the only location since the 2004 model year where GM produces the W-cars.

I think only number 2 is being shut down - to convert it to a flex platform plant to assemble the Zeta RWD vehicles. If I recall correctly it was originally supposed to close and was announced as such last year. I'm not sure but I think both plants are to be combined into a single facility but as I said I'm not sure.

Monte is supposed to be phased out and gone next year as well, IIRC. When that happens Lacrosse/Allure production would move to Oshawa 1(?). I'll assume FWD Impala production would continue (the new face of Chevrolet for NAscar as well, so it must be planned to continue for the short term anyway) until the Zeta cars start rolling out. I may be mistaken though.....

I think the GXP parts bin should absolutely have been built into the Lacross Super . The current Impala is on such borrowed time and theres definately smarter ways to spend the money within chevrolet , leave the Monte and Impala as is .

dream '94 Z28 - It will have a RWD Commodore SS to replace it until the NA G8 is completed . Compared to what Pontiac is getting , the GP GXP will imo be foregettable

Monte Carlo (at least in it's current form) is right behind the Grand Prix to the glue factory.

No. You're correct.

This post over at C&G came to mind when reading this.

The Camaro will start up with a strait day shift ONLY for about six mounths. The NEW paint shop presently supplys both plants. To Be HONEST I'am not certain if the body shop and hardware areas can do both at the same time.

Its a shame to see it go, it had such a short life and it was a pretty cool car. Hopefully they will interchange parts from the GXPs into other cars in the GM lineup.

Not when it is being replaced by the Holden Commodore

I hope the Impala SS get some of the GXP suspension parts.

I hope the Bilsteins live on. They might be a bit harsh for the Buick, but the Impala would surely benefit - right now it's way to sloppy to be taken seriously as a sports sedan.

Like the GXP (and unlike the Impala SS), the Lacrosse Super is having alot of development time by GMHP division.......... whatever that's worth.

It just occurred to me that so far each time a given model has gotten a GXP treatment, it has become a model with a shortened life expectancy. First Bonneville and now the Grand Prix have gotten GXP performance upgrades and then got shown the door...... coincidence? Hmmmm.

Maybe the guys putting together the G6 (upcoming GXP variant looks like a go) should be worried.....

I like the GP but unlike the Bonneville, the replacement in the wings looks to be a very desirable product - let's hope it works out so well that no one will lament the passing of the GP. Bring on the VE/Zetas.....

So, the G8 will be seen at Chicago around the 7th, and be on dealer lots just as the GP is phasing out?

nice.
