XLRV Pricing

...So...looks like this car is going to come in at $100k or thereabouts...

Will you guys hate it for the same reasons you hate the Ford GT, since this car isn't as fast for the money as the Z06?

Re: XLRV Pricing

Well, I don't hate the Ford GT for its price or speed. I like it because it fills a niche. It's a remake of a classic and that's fine with me. So likewise, this car is aimed to provide good power and luxury and get Cadillac's nameplate up there with the best, so I think it's fine for what it is. It's not like I can afford any of the abovementioned cars anyways.

Re: XLRV Pricing

This is completely different beast that the GT. The XLR-V is more targeted at the Mercedes SL500/600. That's were the comparo will be interesting.

Re: XLRV Pricing

I really think Cadillac needs to have this car even if it isn't selling a million units a year, it probably shouldn't. But if they intend to be the standard of the world they need to have a competitive entry in every major segment, at a decent price.

I know BMW and Benz aren't worried about price, but I think they should be, even their enthusiast are starting to complain about over pricing. With makers like :gasp: Hyundai climbing up the style and reliability chain, if everyone does that then its going to be impossible to justify the huge markups they charge, unless they are going to cut production way back... I mean you can only put so many gadgets on a car and charge $1,500 for them... I think.

Re: XLRV Pricing

People who hate on the GT do so out of simple brand bias or simply fail to see its real intention. It was never intended to be a mass-market 8,000 unit a year car like the z06 whose basis was a platform that sold around 30k a year annually. Its intentions were never really to be an under 100k corvette fighter, but one whose performance, mystique, and aspirations where more inline with the 200k Lambo's and Ferrari's. The GT is a direct competitor to the 360’s, 430’s, and Gallardo’s. These cars were never about value or volume the way corvette and z06 is. Just the way I see it. For what it is, the GT’s price is more than justified imo.

As for the XLR-V, 100k is definitly on the hefty side but it isn't bad when you compare it to competitors like the MB SL55 AMG. Sure, the AMG is packing 53 horses and tq more, but it also costs 123k. But on the other hand, 400hp luxury ragtops like the Maserati Spyder and Jag XKR do cost less, but they don't have retractable hardtops and they're packing a 40 horses less. Then again, a 12 second retractable hardtop convertible can be found in the SLK55 AMG for 40k less than this XLR-V, but they aren't in the same class really ( a z06 vs GT like comparison).

In the end, i think a price around 85k would have been better, but i'm not really the target customer so it doesn't matter.

Re: XLRV Pricing

I don't hate the GT...its a $150k Ford that is nominally faster than a $65k Chevy. I don't hate it...I just think that the person with enough $$ to buy it is an idiot. Not because he has that much $$, but because he chose to spend that much $$ on a Ford. Is that a biased opinion? Sure is...last time I checked, this was a free country, too

Anyhoot, I'm ok with a $100k Caddy if it offers the same or better performance than the competition for less $$. Something tells me this car will run with an SL600 for $30-40k less. And that's the whole point with the Z06...it does as much (depending on what performance measure you're using) for less than 1/2 the price.

Maybe the GT looks cooler, and belongs to a "more exotic" market. I still think you're an idiot. Maybe I'm just jealous

I agree.

With regards to this topic, Z06 can't drop its top.

Re: XLRV Pricing

I love the Ford GT, but I love it even more that a Chevy is half the price and faster

Not every car is built to be the fastest car for the money, Cadillac and Mercedes are about Luxury with performance.

Re: XLRV Pricing

I was hoping it would come in a little lower-price, but if it manages to best the AMG Mercedes coupes of the same price and higher.

Re: XLRV Pricing

Personally I see it as a major waste of time, $$$ & effort when GM is cutting or delaying so many other programs for higher production models....

That being said, just as others have said, if it bests the competition for much less $$ then GM has suceeded yet again......

But just as with the SSR, I wish GM would concentrate their $$ on cars that the general populace would buy, and not just a bunch of rich cronies.....

Re: XLRV Pricing

Now if they could just build a decent mainstream sedan

And the GT isn't all performance, its just cool, and its low volume. I am a ZO6 fan but if offered one I'd take the ford, which will turn more heads??? If I was paying the crossed flags would fill my garage.

with stuff already developed for the STS-V and C6, I doubt the XLR-V cost a lot of money (compared to other projects). but your right about the SSR, it is a cool truck, but at under 10000 units the money would have been better spent on a cheaper car that would sell 100,000+ units.

Re: XLRV Pricing

I certainly don't hate the Ford GT! I do think it's a little funny, to pay that kind of $$$ for a Ford though. Especially when one considers the Z06, and it's price. A Cadillac with such a high price, does not seem as funny, and makes alot more sense to me.

...and the Ford GT makes the Farrari 430 price look silly.
