These cars are referred to as "Shooting Brakes" among the monied. AM as well as other exotic builders have been making them for the absurdly wealthy for quite some time. The Sultan of Brunei is one of the biggest buyers. The manufacturers set a minimum order of a dozen or so ,and folks like the Sultan have to buy the lot if they want one.

It's certainly true during the 80's when the Sultan and his brother massed up their collection of cars...Nowadays, I don't know...He has forbid his younger brother to buy more cars, and he's also reigning in his passion for cars since the country is no longer making as much money from oil as compared to the 80's. The cars are now spare parts for whatever good ones he has left in his collection. If I'm not mistaken, he may have aution off most of the stable back in 2002 to recoup some money.
