Yes, I like 305's idea, I would do that and just show a Red Chevy symbol with what he said. But, when it got close to the release date I would have it go something like this:

A legend with 35 years of history (1st Gen Z28 starts and revs then is shown winning a competition, an SS does a burnout) A real musclecar (early 2nd Gen SS starts its run at a track, Z28 is taking a turn with competitors following, back to the SS as it beats the car in the lane next to it, video of later 2nds) An American icon (82-84 Z28 is shown just sitting there looking nice, an L98 IROC-Z takes a ridiculously sharp turn with ease rumbling as it goes by fast at WOT, slalom, then burnout) 4 Generations of excellence and beating out all the others (4th Gen LT1 shown driving normally then WOT all of a sudden, then an LS1 is shown making a M*****g look stupid) *nothing for a few seconds* And now, its back for the 5th time......with a vengence (The Camaro symbol appears, then quickly, video of all 5th Gen models quickly taking turns, braking, accelerating, flying by, and making lots of noise doing it all especially the Z28 and SS, then interior views and emblem pictures RS, SS, and Z28) *nothing* (Video shown slowly going around the car while the words: ) The new 5th Generation Camaro from Chevrolet, still muscle at its best (The new Z28 revs loudly, then the word CAMARO shows quickly and thats it)

Hey IZ28, I love your idea. Only one thing missing, the "it's pissed" line! I guess "with a vengence" would work.

I think they'd rather use with a vengence on TV.

I would also advertise this car aggressively against all possible, even imports, making it undeniable in the auto community, and impossible to not know about. With things like "Camaro, what a musclecar should be," and "The Z28, the REAL Z car." Obviously marketing against the M*****g and the 350Z, in a move to persuade more buyers to the Camaro in any market.

My take:

First of all, before they ever advertise the car we'll all know what it looks like and everything about it (should it come out at all).

So here's how I'd advertise it.

Two months before they go on sale, show footage fading in and out of black of a '67 Camaro (orange, inside a garage) being uncovered and started up. Before the engine actually starts, fade to black permenantly and then just have the audio of the engine spinning to life and a couple blips. Show the Chevy logo. 15 second ad.

About two weeks after that, show all the top of the line Camaros lined up side by side about 1.5 carwidths apart in a black room with a shiny black floor, left (oldest) to right (newest). Facing the left, have a crane shot pan back from the first gen, second gen, third gen, fourth gen, and then a fifth gen under a tan car cover, wind blowing on it.
Fade to black. Show the date of the public unveiling. 15 second ad.

Two more weeks. Show a red new Camaro at Laguna Seca or some other challenging and scenic track, with only a door/fender mounted camera. Up-tempo rock instrumental playing. Fade to black, fade in "CAMARO" logo, and above it the blue bowtie logo. 15 second ad.

Two more weeks (finally time), show most of the track shot (no music, just the engine), then a quick version of the crane shot from #2, the cover pulls off, and before you can really get an eyeful of the car, we return to the track and blend from the fender shot into a crane shot pulling back and the car (still not easy to identify due to it moving so quickly and the distance of the shot) is taking all the corners and looking just really cool. Cut to a shot of the tach, and zoom out and show the interior (quickly). Then cut back to the car coming to a stop and crane in for a closer (3/4 front) view. Hold for 5 seconds. Fade to black, "CAMARO", blue bowtie. 60-90 second ad.

After that, a few ads showing everything more up-close and detailed and (slightly) less dramatic.

GM, if you're reading this, contact me and we can work something out.

All these ideas rule!! I like cmc's idea a lot right now. I remember during the Super Bowl when they advertised "M-lifes" like that: talking about it, but not saying what it is, only leaving clues. That drove me crazy until I found out what it was

I think a cool commercial would be something like this:

Show a cemetary, dark at night, with clouds, owls, and scary crap. Show what is on the headstones of some stones: "RIP Chevelle, 442, Nova, El Camino, etc" then show "RIP Camaro 1967-2002"

Then you will hear a rumble. The headstone will start to rattle. The birds will fly away. The rumbling and shaking will get louder and louder. The stone will turn over, break, the turn will crumble, and a 5th gen will drive out. Once it gets out it will rev, and the lights will slowing get brighter until the whole screen is white. Then the word's "It's back" or something similar will fade in and then fade out.

Picture this:

A 30-something couple is sitting at home in 1967. (The set must reflect this) They're just hanging out doing random stuff you do in 1967, etc. Suddenly the guy's attention gets fixated straight ahead into the distance, into the wall, like he's having a revelation. He stops whatever he was doing and then a sly smirk shows up on his face, and he runs to grab the keys in the other room where his wife/gf can no longer see him. He's also after a brown leather jacket. She curiously asks from the other room "honey, what are you doing?". Now the fascinated look on his face is interrupted by her voice and he wants to say anything just to ger her off his back. "Umm.. I'm.. going for a ride. In the Camaro". (It's important that he mention it by name! This affirms that it must be included as part of everyday lingo). Camera shows girl in the other room as she rolls her eyes and asks "aren't you ever going to break out of your skin?" as if to mock his kidlike behavior, lusting after cars. Camera shows him in the other room grinning and saying in a low voice she can't hear "yeah.. yeah I am.." Now the camera cuts away to a shot of him on a totally abandoned 2-lane highway driving a 1967 Camaro with the leather jacket. The angles are shot from low-flying helicopters doing slow 360's around him at maybe 55mph, no more than 25 feet away, maybe 10 - 20 feet up. A different camera shows the front fascia starting to crack up slowly and peel back like an old layer of skin, with the force of the wind which you can hear. Slowly over a few seconds, the entire car's skin peels off in small and big pieces and is flung away, little by little getting left behind by the wind. The emerging car is now a 2nd gen, maybe a 78 Z28 and is going even faster & louder, with harsher wind sound effects. 360-degree helicopter angles continuing all through this time. Shell-peel action happens again for 87 IROC and the car speeds up more, then a 97 Z28 or SS (whatever the last year for recessed headlights was), even faster, then the climax is the last stage, the 5th gen, going at 100mph or more (maybe blur the surroundings a little bit, so as to not alienate viewers than can't handle too much speed/action) The car is shown from every possible angle from the choppers, etc. Just when you can't get enough, the screen blacks out, the wind goes out with a deep echo. The next shot is him walking into the house which is now all modern and 21st century (set must reflect this too) with a big smile, tossing the keys up and catching them, saying "I took your advice!" and the girl shaking head or rolling eyes again. Neither one of them has aged, but the car in the garage is of course a 5th gen. Then fadeout to Camaro name, bowtie, etc. The End. It's very crucial to show all 5 cars together like this to tie them together as one. Heritage/lineage/etc.

Talking damn good ideas all

Wow,

Those are some damn good ad ideas, 305fan, IZ28, cmc, V6bird, kizz. I like them all. I agree with IZ28, "with a vengance" would be much more appropriate than "and it's pissed" (still like it's pissed better though, it personofies the car more ). The second idea echoes alot of what you guys pitched, Camaro's rich heritage.

Theme 2:
"Generations" (no, not as in Star Trek )
1st Gen;
Crane shot 67 GTA Mustang (390 cu. in.) at a stoplight (frontal). 67 SS396 Camaro comes up on the same light. Cut to Mustang driver's face, looking over at the Camaro and raising an eyebrow. Mustang Revs. Cut to Camaro driver's face with a smile coming on. Cut to stoplight turning green (ideally you would hear tires screeching but since that would probably be cut out anyways, no screech ).
2nd Gen;
Crane shot 71 Boss 351 at a stoplight (frontal). 70 1/2 Z/28 Camaro comes up on the same light. repeat above scene (same actors with appropriate attire and grooming for year)
3rd Gen;
Crane shot 82 5.0L GT .... 82 Z/28 .....
4th Gen;
Crane shot 01 Cobra (no 02).... 02 SS (35th Ann.) .....
5th Gen;
Crane shot 0X Cobra at a stoplight. Empty lane to his left, driver looks bored. Mustang remains by itself a bit longer, to the point it begins to look like a Mustang commercial. 5th gen SS comes up a few seconds before the light turns green. Just enough time for both drivers to get a glance at each other and smile. Light turns green, bowtie appears, "let the next generation have its fun, Camaro". Or something along those lines, can't come up with a good tagline.

Skills

Man the advertising agencies are really missing out, you guys have really got some skills here. I mean they have some ads that when I see them I wonder what kind of morons though that would be a good ad , they should be fired and replaced with some of you guys. For example you will never see me drinkin a certain new soda, hot chicks are great but don't annoy the hell out of people." DON'T YOU WANT A F***A ", NO F-ING WAY. Seriously though I hope the General is paying atention here. Some really good ads here, thats if they can find it in their hearts to part with some loot for it. Hey, I'm think I'm jumping the gun here, There isn't anything to advertise ... YET!

I dunno about anyone else, but my above idea is royalty-free, public-domain, etc. Meaning GM is free to use it. That is, unless their competition does so first. If any of these advertising ideas will help them sell more f-bodys, I'm all for it.

I'll sign an official release in exchange for a 5th gen Z28, paid in full and optioned out the way I want it.

Paid in full

I bet the price of a 5th gen would be far less than what they would pay an ad agency, for their lame ideas.

Hey, I'd do that too!!

We're pretty good at this considering they're not even talking about the car yet! Just think how good we can get if we actually see a car!!
