Cool Wouldn't this be cool!

I was laying in bed last night, trying to go to sleep, and I thought of something very cool. This may take a minute or two so stay with me here.

Remember when Michael Jordan retired the first time. When he came back he released a press statement that said only two words : "I'm Back" Everyone knew what he meant. Rumors where swirling around about him coming back for months, so that was all he really had to say. I, being a Jordan fan, thought it was so cool.

Well, rumors have been swirling around for quite awhile about the possible return of the F-body. No one, outside of a very few at GM, know what is really going on though. Theories about what is actually going on are as plentiful as people who post on this board and others like it, so I'm not going to go into that here. But, what if one day Scott Settlemire or Bob Lutz or someone releases a press statement one day that says simply : "It's Back"
Then maybe the next day they flood the media with advertisments all about the 5th gen. I'm talking pictures and videos and the whole deal. Newspaper, magazines, TV, heck even before movies. Everywhere!! Wouldn't that be cool?

And then (this is where I get a little crazy) what if they contacted all the dealers and told them on a certain day, we will deliver 3 top secret cars. Tell them how much they will pay for all 3 and how much MSRP is for all 3. If they want them, fine. If not, fine. Then maybe this advertisement says these cars will arrive on showrooms in a week, and then they do! One base V6 car, one Z28, and one SS. Man that would be so cool.

Maybe I should go into advertisement! Or, maybe I should stay away from the eggnog!

Yes, that would be VERY cool! Although I'd be satisfied no matter how they did it, as long as it was what a Camaro should be.

Agreed!

I just hope they really go off when they bring it back. Alot of fanfare and alot of advertising. Alot of horsepower would work too!

Michael Jordan F-body? Ugh.... OK, so that means that it'll go through multiple hiatuses each leading to a short and failed generation, and after about the third hiatus, the f-body would be back for one last try, have a totally lousy last generation, fail to attract most of its original audience, and go out with a whimper.. That would suck.

Either get it right after this one hiatus which is obviously one too many, or go the other route: "only the good die young". More like James Dean and less like MJ.

No, no, no, you missed the point, or I didn't come across with my point very well. The MJ thing was just a reference to his first 'hiatus' from basketball. When he came back then, he won 3 more championships and was on the winningest team of all time. That's what I'm talking about. Now comparing a return of a sports figure with a car is kinda far-fetched, but I'm grasping at straws here! I just hope when (not if, I won't say if) the 5th gen comes out, there should be alot of fanfare. They should advertise the crap out of it. Everyone should know it's back and badder than ever. It needs to come back and be hip. It needs to come back and kick butt!

Anyhow, I just thought it would be cool!

I definitely think that would be the way to market the 5th gen. I've been kicking around a few ideas for 5th gen commercials myself. This might be a good thread to voice them.

I picture two ads with different themes.

Theme 1:
"Re-introduction"
5th gen frontal (base model; headlights off; subdued lighting; absolute silence) - 2.2 sec; cut to dragstrip SS doing burnout(birdseye view; lots of smoke and squeal) - 1.5 sec; cut to driver 1/4 panel badging "SS 3XX" - 0.5 sec; cut to 5th gen sideview (base model; subdued lighting; absolute silence) - 2.0 sec; cut to road course Z/28 overtakes an M3 thru a corner - 1.5 sec; cut to driver 1/4 panel badging "Z/28" (yes, the slash is back) - 0.5 sec; cut to 5th gen rear (base model; subdued lighting; absolute silence) - 1.0 sec; cut to dragstrip SS launch as tree goes green - 1.25 sec; cut to 5th gen interior (Z/28 or SS) - 1.0 sec; cut to roadcourse, Z/28 stopping on a dime to make a corner - 1.1 sec; cut to dragstrip, gages on 1-2 shift - 1.0 sec; cut to roadcourse, Z/28 accelerating out of a corner - 0.9 sec; cut to dragstrip SS scorching up the track - 0.8 sec; cut to roadcourse Z/28 drifting a corner - 0.7 sec; cut to dragstrip traps, SS comes in at 12.5 and 115 mph - 0.5 sec; cut to 5th gen frontal, headlights come on, omnious voice "it's back <pause .3 sec> and it's pissed", chevy bowtie and "CAMARO" lettering gloss screen - 3.0 sec.

I'll post the second idea later, it's 2AM and I'm falling asleep.

That was cool, times and everything in that post. I'd like to see a commercial really similar to that but would use video or pictures of all Gen Camaros in it before showing a really good view of the 5th Gen or it in action, with no /. LOL

"it's pissed" just screams refinement. That's how you get EVERYBODY to buy your car!

Sounds Great

The 4th gen cars were severely lacking in this area, lets hope someone at Chevrolet is reading this post. Look at the Mustang sales, and you can't turn on the tv without seeing them they were in every ad, tire cleaners, wheel polish, wax, etc. Not to mention the ads Ford was running on their own. Its all subliminal, they got people thinking about them (Mustangs). They need to saturate the market with them, but more importantly they need to absolutely make sure the 5th gen delivers on a performance level. If the car doesn't deliver it will be a waste of money. These are some great ideas though keep them coming, The General could save alot of money here, I'm sure you guys would be happy to let them use your ideas. What better place to get them from than the enthusiasts themselves, who knows more about our cars us, or some Ad agencies? Hello GM anyone home!

Thumbs up

LOL at the "it's pissed" The next batch of commercials need to be more like the Mountain Dew commercial with the T/A in it. Hahaha.

Also, if/when the Camaro comes back it better be good enough to get car of the year from at least a couple of Magazines like Road & Track, and Car & Driver, although thats probably a given.

When the 4th gen came out in 1993 it was narrowly beaten for the Motor Trend car of the year by the Ford Probe. It's not neccesarily a given.

Hmmm...err..ah...interesting idea--sort of. But your talking one DAY after anouncinf, It's back-- flood with media? Thats not long enough to build up suspense and most people would miss it.

How about a month long commercial campaign--don't show the car at all in commercails (or show car but in really dark, faint lighting)--just "It's Back". sound of a loud V8
and "April 30th"

Got to build suspense
