Would you rather have retro or something like this.....
Re: Would you rather have retro or something like this.....
I agree - something in between. The Corvette is the perfect example of how a sports car with a long heritage should look. The C6 is not in any way shape or form a retro car, but it has certain cues that make it unmistakeably Corvette and show a natural progression from the Sting Ray.

Somewhere in between.
The corvette in my opinion does a great job of this. It looks modern, but you know its a corvette with just one look. It has cues, but isn't retro.

I was thinking of something today...the price of a car has a lot to do with how good it looks. Take the Solstice for instance the styling isn't considered all that great, but if it cost $250K it would probably be considered timeless or something. For this reason I don't believe any "affordable" car will ever be considered a greatly styled car, like the 4th gen (be it Camaro or Firebird). I dunno where this fits in at but it didn't seem "new thread" worthy...just something I was thinking about.

Aston Martin
So yeah, if GM could make a $25-30k car look like a $250k car...I'll take one.
Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me...if it looks good (retro or completely new design) and has power to back it up, I'll buy one.

Ahahaha...months ago I brought up the idea that the Camaro should look like European sports cars with front engine, rear drive set ups, i.e. Aston Martin's, Ferrari 612 and 575, etc etc.
It could work along the same lines as the 300, giving it a big money look, for a little money price. Aston's just look flat out beautiful. Aggressive hips, sexy roof line, and that that all important long nose.
And if you look at the G35, it also takes cues from the Astons.
IMO, the Ferrari 612 looks like a Retromodern early 2nd gen Camaro, circle tail lights and all.

I would rather a Camaro be recognizable as a Camaro and simply look good, whatever that entails.
If you're asking, "is it better to rip off past Camaros or current Aston Martins," I'd rather steal styling themes from Camaros.

I'd like something like that, but something with a nice trunk lid area would be nice. I'm not a hatch type of guy or a fan of the "fastback" look. Even though I do drool over early Second Gen cars
