Would you expect a 2007 Camaro to be more expensive then a 2007 Mustang?
Re: Would you expect a 2007 Camaro to be more expensive then a 2007 Mustang?
I'm thinking that a base Camaro would sticker just a tad below the Mustang's base and adding a few options would still make it slightly cheaper as GM would have to compete with Ford directly.
I also think that the Mustang has options that are a bit pricey including expensive sound options/keylock gadgets etc. All this could be factors. The top of the line Camaro would probably be on par with the Cobra pricewise but may or may not have better performance.. All in all though I would think that the Camaro should be pretty close...
I think you also need to add the option of (500-100 cheaper in the poll questions) just incase someone feels the same.

If history is any indication the Camaro will be around 2 grand more. I certainly hope not. For it to compete, it has to be the same or cheaper.

I think the Camaro will be more expensive, but will still be best bang for the buck with better handling, power, and of course...looks.
Re: Would you expect a 2007 Camaro to be more expensive then a 2007 Mustang?
That's really hard to say.
There were huge and habitual debates on the options available for the 2005 Stang. Everybody loved the "Mustang" in aluminum on the kick plates and all those other numerous improvements but, lots none enthusiast wanted heated seats, Nav, more interior options, HIDs etc. Of course then everyone screams "Muscle cars don't need all that."
But ****, 12k econoboxes and pickup trucks come with things like that now. So I for one agree that they should be available on at least one model.
If GM were to pull out a faster, non-retro, good looking camaro, with a lot of the options Ford neglected in the same price range, maybe up to 3k+ I think they would have no problem stealing Ford's thunder.

I guess it would all depend on the car itself . I would love to see a nicely optioned 4th gen equivelent Z28 with a manual , cloth seats , big wheels/tires and nice sound system sell for about $24,995 . Hmm , just like the new mustang . The early 4th gens were in line price wise , but the last the few years you couldnt touch a nicely optioned Z28 for barely under $27K . While the 02-04 mustangs came fully loaded , leather , mach460 audio , 17" wheels/tires for $26K if I remember right , hell maybe it was lower than that . I just think if ford can turn out an all around fantastic standard package and price it at $24,995 in 2005 , GM should be able to do the same with the camaro . Some will agrue the $24.9 is jus base , but that happens to be my fav. new stang . The minimal cloth seat , DE-chrome trimmed interior looks fantastic imo .
I didnt vote because I dont think it should be more than the mustang

maybe cheaper
considering it won't cost much to produce (assuming some things here) and there is no firebird to make up costs on either

Not understanding the point of the post, they've always generally been right around the same price depending on options..dont think it will be any differant in 07

I think GM will be making a big mistake if they don't price it the same or better than the Mustang. And they will need to offer more content than the Mustang to boot to compete.

Tack on rebates and the GT could be had for 22000. This I know was more a matter of supply issues and a**hole dealers. We'd be lucky to see a Z28 or TA on the dealer lot to begin with.

you really have to compare apples-to-apples, or at least as close as you can when you compare the two cars.
If you have similarly equipped cars, V6 to V6, the Mustang would be cheaper by about $500-700... similar V8 trim level models were even closer, and in general, an SS is cheaper than a Cobra for the years the two cars were both produced.
The problem was more with the cars the dealerships chose to stock.
You could always order a car though...
In short, I REALLY don't think the pricing was out of whack, I just think most dealers stocked expensive, loaded cars... generally all either Red, Black or Pewter.
We've gone over this a lot in the past... seems to hold pretty true.

the real question is what chassis is will be using, that will determine a lot of cost
but not having the r&d on the firebird/ta's and the different wheels, skins, interior, etc. is a lot less cost when producing a car
Re: Would you expect a 2007 Camaro to be more expensive then a 2007 Mustang?
This thread seems to subject people want a substantially better (hasnt been stated but we all know it) car than they new stang for less, maybe only a few pennies less but still. Of course that would be the way to move the most units but some of you sound as if you wont CONSIDER an 07' camaro unless its cheaper better and faster than the current stang. I don't get that.
I also fail to see any logic behind a niche market. So in the midst of a new horsepower war, and revitalization of RWD Camaro is a niche vehicle??????
