Would a Malibu Coupe Sell?

Which is the entire reason, I believe, there should be a Malibu-sized coupe. Cobalt, too small. Monte, too big. Malibu? JUST RIGHT

Also, it'll be interesting to see what Kappa spawns for Chevy.
Sometimes I think some folks here feel GM needs either:
A V8 in every model produced.
RWD on every model produced.
A coupe version of every model produced.
Face it, Beretta was dropped for a reason . I didn't really hear too many people screaming bloody murder that there was no replacement back in 1997 either. Sure, there may have been a passing comment or two, but that's about it.
What cars was it that Scott always says Mustang buyer were considering if they didn't buy a Mustang? Oh ya... Cavalier or Grand Am...
Hmmmm.....

Seriously though I am not sure why they cancelled the Beretta. It may have been naming, or dynamiclly the car couldn't complete. Plus the Alero Couple was in the pipeline and did quite well.
Honestly here is how I would like to see Chevy's coupe linup....
Prices are including rebates.or whatever depending on how GM plays the MSRP game.
Cobalt Coupe starting at $14K
FWD/AWD Malibu Coupe starting at $19-20K topping at $25K for loaded V6 AWD.
Base RWD Camaro 24K loaded AWD Base Camaro $28K (If V8 Camaro buyers cross shop the Cobalt and Malibu Coupe they did something wrong)
Now as for the Monte I think they need to make it a coupe version of the large RWD platform that is coming out....maybe the size of a GTO or a little larger. Ford moved around 70K MN-12s up untill 97....so I don't see why GM couldn't snap this market up. Give it a 3.9L and a 300HP 5.3L and call it a day.
Some more food for thought....what if GM called the Malibu coupe Chevelle?
I love causing arguments
Cobalt Coupe, Monte Carlo, and Camaro touch very different markets & buyers with no overlap within Chevrolet.
Add Malibu to the mix, and I suspect it would take a few sales from both Monte Carlo & Cobalt.
Also, I really don't see a 2 door version of the Malibu as especially visually appealing, at least with it's current body IMHO.

Yes, but I don't like the Camry but think that the Solara is pretty hot

Getting back to Kappa for a minute though....the CGI of the Nomad doesn't really set my soul on fire...but I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh before I make a final decision. I really see Kappa as GM's future in the "sporty", affordable, coupe/convertible segment. Sure...it's smaller than a Malibu sized coupe, but I'd really like to see what a Chevy version Kappa coupe would look like though.
I have visions of a modern day Monza in my head......

Same thing I've been hearing about the Saturn Curve.
I gotta say I'm intrigued by the Kappa based Nomad. At 71" wide, and barely 50" tall, and a turbo Ecotec, it's going to be unlike anything on the road, and perhaps the 1st "station wagon" for enthusiasts.
For everyone who's keeping track, the Kappa lineup so far:
Pontiac Solstice
Saturn Curve
Vauxhall & Opel Lightning
Chevrolet Nomad
Buick's Kappa sports car was cancelled in favor of GM's upcoming high performance coupe chassis. The "rumored" lineup for this chassis at the moment:
Chevrolet Camaro
Pontiac GTO (possibly as part of a newly named vehicle line)
Buick (yet unnamed)
Cadillac (yet unnamed)
It's pretty shocking that all these vehicles will be out within 3 years if everything goes well.

Just speculating...but it would make sense to fold a RWD GP and GTO into the same program.

So basically, a "Grand Prix" wouldn't be much more than a 4 door GTO?

But here are two Pontiac tidbits.
1) Grand Prix will go RWD.
2) Pontiac doesn't want to get stuck only selling 400 hp, low volume GTO's with the new platform.
I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but.........
