Post Witnessed new cobra vs current fbodys

Just got back from Englishtown raceway park and I have to say the new 03 Cobra is no more then a 1/2 second faster then the current ls1 in stock form...There were a few LS1's runnin w/ no more then a SS factory package...they were cuttin 2.2 short times and running in the 13.5-6 range.. To my surprise there was also a yellow 03 Cobra Coupe there...i saw the guy run twice...both runs he also cut a 2.2 60 and ran a 13.2 @108. The car definately has gobs of power. Once the moddin begins the cobra has the advantage w/ the boost ofcourse and the forged internals...but as far as bolt on and minor mods go Id say there not too far apart...FWI there was a 1st gen maxima body car there runnin 8.8's

I'd say that stock to stock they aren't too far apart....3 to 5 tenths perhaps. However, with minor bolt-ons, things get interesting real quick...Joe Mainiero went 11.865et at 119.36 at Moroso last night on stock tires and the following mods...

Cold air kit
"2.80" pulley
2.5 X-pipe exhaust
2.5 Flowmaster Cat back kit
computer chip

Weight was 3850 lbs with him. What do you think this car will run with sticky tires, a couple hundred pounds of weight reduction, and something other than summer-time Florida air?

I agree that as soon as the market for the 03 really gets going it'll be all over...Tuners are basically the only ones w/ 03 Cobra (JDM, etc) mods now besides exhaust companies..It was cool last night here, but yes it will be interesting to see the times these things put out in cool fall/winter air.

Bob a 11.85 @119 mph for a 3850 lb car suggests about 480-500 rwhp. Thats a real big jump in power from a stock car. Don't 03's dyno in the 350-365 rwhp with a few miles on the odo. Picking up 130-150 rwhp with a smaller SC pulley, cold air kit, flows and a chip isn't that a little extreem? Are you sure there are no other mods?

I keep hearing stories about how the 03 is a much bigger beast than anyone expected. Things like close to 500rwhp with just bolt-ons (pulley, exhaust, chip, etc).

This thing's going to be BAD.

So far, they have gotten an 03 Cobra to push out 499-500rwhp, and 510-510rwtq with just a chip, pulley, and cat-back exhaust. And we are talking about a cat back which is not specifically made for the 03 yet!! I can't remember the exact numbers so I am putting ranges down. Check out corral or stangnet, they have the dyno slips up.

Just doing a x-pip and cat back they have gotten cars up to and above 430rwhp!!!!!

People are still learning how to drive these cars and still pampering them like crazy, so we should see much better numbers by next race season.

Yes 500 rwhp from bolt ons is true..they react EXTREMELY well to bolt on mods..most of the power comming from a simple pulley swap..there the real deal for sure.

There was a 2003 Cobra that dyno'd at www.nedyno.com and stock it made 350 RWHP and after a pulley change, catback and K&N it made 436 RWHP (stock program).

He's getting a chip made for it and will be back to dyno again soon.

Only a half second

Why did GM ever bother with the LS1 ... the LT1 was also only a half second slower

Wow 350hp stock and then pulley change and 436 rwhp. Thats very very impressise. I have to give Ford and SVT kudo's for the 03 Cobra. It sounds like a very very potent package thats very bottled up from the factory. And then forged internal parts just in case. Despite the price and the hefty weight the car still runs very well.

I've heard a transplanted 03 Cobra motor was dropped in to a Fox body notch and is supposed to be a super stout runner. No times just rumors so far.
