Wilmington Gearing Up For Solstice Targa
Cory, keep talking boss.
With that said, the O.P. that commented on the crash safety rating is right. A hard top would be great for racing, however it does not seem that GM will be making a "true" hardtop Solstice with this generation.

A trunk . This car might actually be useful for a couple to take out of town for a weekend without the passenger holding everything u brought .....and a car u dont have to un-do and fold up the bottom of the vert top just to open the tiny little trunk . Aaaand , I live about 10 minutes from the Tire Rack , there a quite a few folks that race these cars and are pretty serious about it . Prediction ....vert sales will drop off alot . Errrr hopefully they thought to make the trunk more useful on a car that doesnt have a folding top . The targa panel has to go in there , but I would assume it'd take up a fraction of the space a folded top would .
A base Solstice GXP targa with the solo handling package and a manual trans would be a fun little car .

That is a major problem for me with the solstice/sky, no trunk room.
I love the picture in the link
Here are some facts:
1. There is very little storage space in the Solstice/ Sky (kappa car)
2. There is even less space with the top down
3. You can pack enough "stuff" for not only for a weekend getaway but a week.
4. You have to be creative in how you pack.
5. The majority of people that read this will not believe it due to preconceived notions. NOT from experience that comes from ownership.
I convinced my wife to wait 1 year after production began for the GXP model which she did barely. During the summer the GXP gets driven daily and to date she has not encountered any shortcomings with regards to storage. She'll even stop at Costco on the way home for supplies. Creativity is the key. There is a fair amount of room to the sides and at the end of the trunk for items.
The most important thing to realize here is that this is a niche car that serves a specific purpose. It's meant to be a modern roadster. Light on it's feet and fun to drive with the wind in your hair. It is NOT practical for most people. See it for what it is not what you think it should be.
It seems like retooling to produce a targa (coupe body with removable roof panel like Corvette) would be a lot more expensive than simply building a removable hardtop (as has been offered on the Miata over the years). Are you sure this is a targa and not a removable hardtop?

This crap is so old it just goes round and round. Before anyone can truly speak to the shortcomings of the Solstice for luggage space and weekend trips you first have to experience one. It's called "speaking from experience"

Can you take some pictures of the storage area with the top up and down please.
With some minor engineering an lsX motor will fit, right?
