Will there be a Firebird/Trans Am rebirth?

I know I know....bla bla bla Tired of talking about it huh? Well I just sold me 99 WS6 and have been looking at some project cars. I have been seeing more and more talk about a fifth gen Fbody coming soon and want to put myself in the position to buy one of the first if that is so the case. I was just wondering is there any concrete evidence to suggest a bird rebirth? OR should I just go forward with my plans.?

Go ahead with your plans (though I don't know why you sold your 99 Bird in the 1st place ).

Pontiac doesn't seem interested in a Firebird, and I get the feeling they are willing to forgo one to get the Solstice.

Point of intrest: The next GTO will be lower and more aggressive looking (what I heard, not what was in a magazine) so if you want to wait a few years, and stockpile your cash, you might want to consider that.

Firebird

As of now...no. GM no longer has the Trans Am name, so no Trans Am. However, GM has the Firebird name still. It's a long shot, but maybe, just maybe we might see a Firebird. It would be released probably a year later than a 5gen. Pontiac has announced that a new GTO would be built.

Actually they are throwing everything into the Solstice. The GTO is part of a GM-wide chassis program.

GM usually copyrights names they intend to use (they copyrighted "Belair" back last year I believe. If they haven't done the same with Solstice yet, I think you may know what your next Firebird will look like.

The ONLY reason I got rid of BAD BIRD was to stock pile my cash. I was tired of paying $400 plus payments and trying to mod anything worth it. I miss her already. Was thinking of a ATI 455 68 FIrebird, or a 455 Quazar blue 96 Formula
hmmm

As far as I know....GM never owned the "Trans Am" name. It is owned by the SCCA. GM paid a royalty, (I think about 10 bucks or so), for every Trans Am they ever sold.

Yeah they paid royalties from the start. I know as soon as I decide to stick my money in a new bird. You will hear rumors about it's return. I hear alot about a Camaro return? Why the Camaro and not the bird?

While there is "no concrete evidence to suggest the Bird's rebirth", there is also no concrete evidence to suggest that there won't be a Bird rebirth.
Pontiac tends to be more tight lipped about these things than Chevy.

Pontiac on their web site has a nice piece about the history of the Firebird. Why would they go to all this effort for a car if its not coming back. I can see it returning-minus the back seat and with a different engine location.

One thing worth remembering (though I'm not sure it applies here) is that the gen 1 Firebird development began after the 1st gen Camaro was done, and still managed to be only a few months later.

The reason I say I'm not sure it applies is because I don't know if we will be looking at a Firebird GTO in 2007 (GTO is likely to share it's chassis with the next "Chevy sports coupe")
