A question for people who KNOW...
A question for people who KNOW...
I'd like to hear from people such as guionM, formula79, and others on this topic...no BS, no bull, for people like me who are still skeptical and/or people new to this board.
How SURE can we be there is going to be a 5th gen? Are we clearly out of the "snowball's chance in hell" chance of it coming back, but not yet in the "sure bet" category? Personally, I have been a moody car enthusist since late '97, when C&D first reported in their '98 Z28 road test there was a chance the cars might go away due to lack of sales. How right they were...
I would love nothing more than to have a chance to buy a NEW Camaro...unfortunately, the Z was 4 years old when I got it. Pristine, but still not a new car. I pray I get the chance.
So those of you who KNOW something concretely, please share...and as for the SS versus Z28 debate? Personally, I don't care as long as they MAKE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not "in the know" but until they start tooling up for production it's only a pen swipe away from being cancelled. One or two bad quarters and they could start cancelling programs. Hopefully that's not true but the way the industry (and the world) is going these days who knows...

I hope it doesn't come out until 2007. Why? Because my 2002 Tahoe will be paid off by then, and as that, my wife might not make me get rid of my '95 Z/28 or '67 RS when I ask to buy one.
Heck, I'll admit it! I do need my wife's permission... especially since the '67 is 1/2 hers!
Well if Red said it, then I'm all good
I didn't know he had said that...musta missed it.
And I hear ya on the "paid off" front. Thats the same scenario I face too. My Grand Am will be paid off in '06, and will have about 70-75k on it by then. I know I can double that mileage before I have to even think about getting rid of it...I have had awesome luck with Grand Ams. So for me, by the time the new Camaro comes out, the Grand Am is paid off and stays a daily driver, the Z is still hibernating with maybe no more than 60k on it at that point, and I can begin a new loan on what I have always wanted...
A NEW Camaro. Make it navy blue metallic, 6 speed, short throw shifter, t-tops, chrome wheels, cloth seats, and let the good times roll
My sig may say I NEED a third gen, but if a 5th gen comes out, if its good, it'll have to take presedence...

I'm asked this at least a dozen times a day (and if I'm at a Camaro event, at least a thousand times a day)
I cannot say a lot.......
But I CAN say this. The Camaro nameplate is one of the top five most recognized nameplates in the industry. That's strong equity.
It would be foolhardy for someone to say the name will never be back.
From a personal perspective: I'd rather kill the name than put it on a car that did not deserve what I consider to be a hallowed name. There are a few people on this board who perhaps don't think I know what a Camaro is and what it isn't. I don't mean to boast, but if you ever saw my home.....or spent any time with me, you'd know I live, eat, and breathe Camaro. I wear a "Camaro" sport shirt or dress shirt (with a Camaro tie) to work nearly every day......and I'll continue to do so, because I think it's important. It's also why I spend most weekends in the summer travelling to Camaro/Firebird enthusiast events....to talk with our owners and enthusiasts one-on-one. (and yes, you may have seen me sneaking around Mustang shows with shades on guaging the temperature.....we need to understand those enthusiasts as well)
(Didn't mean to turn this into a Red Planet Ad....but my point is that there are a lot more similar to me at GM.......and so don't think the car is gone forever.) We ARE listening. But when we don't agree with you personally, it's probably because we agree with some other Camaro enthusiasts...........

If you read what guys like Guion and RP say, there's no doubt. I still say 06/07.
We might disagree on some things RP, but when it comes to caring for the Camaro I think we understand everything. The Camaro to me is a constant everyday thing and I don't mean just driving.

Heck a big hint is a big hint in my book!
As for me... both of these cars say "CAMARO"

While they may be extreme contrasts, too me they are both equally Camaros.
To be dead honest, there isn't one generation I dislike... I love them all... so whatever Chevrolet comes up with to continue the name, if they do (wink, wink), I know this Camaro enthusiast will be happy.

There's a market for the Camaro, not the nameplate alone, but a CAMARO, a personal sport coupe, RWD, high level handling, style, power. Built under circumsatnces that make sense... in a plant sized appropriately to meet the demand. Market "Teamed" as it's own entity, engineered as the C5 project was to transform the execution and quality of the car, NOT THE CHARACTER. The name has equity for a reason.
Red Planet is a car guy, Camaro champion, and someone I consider a friend. When we've had the chance to talk it's always been about cars and enthusiasts. He's first class.
