Would a loaded GXP model be closer to $28,000?
I hope they stay low-cost with the options, though they really are not a necessity for a car like this. Coming in at under $20k will make for a pretty sweet little car.

A new Miata will be coming on about the same time and I doubt they'll be any less than $5000 north of Solstice. That's where I feel the up-level Solstice should be priced.

compare here:
Supercars MazdaSpeed Miata
Supercars Solstice Info

Here's the Solstice compared to the MazdaSpeed Miata, which has more hp than the 142 base Miata

Solstice - [i]Miata[/i}
170hp - 178hp
2860lbs - 2440 lbs

Length: 157.2 in - 155.3 in
Width: 71.6 in - 66.1 in
Height: 50.2 in - 48.3 in
Wheelbase: 95.1 in - 89.2 in
Front Track: 60.5 in - 55.7 in
Rear Track: 61.2 in - 56.7 in

I imagine the size is the same as the base Miata. It looks like the Solstice is a little bit longer and taller, and a fair bit wider. It also has a much wider wheelbase and track however.

A bit heavy when compared to the Miata, though.

Yeah, at 2860 lb., the Solstice doesn't quite do it for me. I think $24k, 240hp, 2400 lb. was (IS) a GREAT formula, too bad it won't be anything like that.

Hopefully DaimlerChrysler will bring over their sexy little low-slung SMART roadster in addition to the stupid-looking ForTwo and ForMore. I imagine a Hayabusa motor would fit in one o' those and you'd have Lotus Elise performance for low- $20s!
