Based on my opinion of the vehicle i would say no. But we all must realize the general buying public thinks very differently than us. Did any of us think chrysler would sell so many PT cruisers when it came out? No. I for one will not be terribly surprised if it does in fact sell that well. In fact, I might be more surprised if it sells terribly.

I like the PT cruiser, but man, that HHR is one fugly looking car. It looks downright weird to me...

Whoever thought DCX would sell so many PT cruisers . I dunno about a 100K , but I would bet both the PT and the Vibe/matrix will lose some sales to the HHR .

Where are they making these? I saw a white, unshrouded on about a month ago in Independence, Missouri near I-70. I noticed it because it had a Chevy badge and I remember the rear-end looking like a minivan of sorts.

Re: Will Chevy really sell 100K HHR's?

*Chrysler sold 120,000 PTs in 2002.

*Behind the Dodge Ram line, the 300 linup, Chrysler's minivans, and the Dodge Magnum, the PT Cruiser is still Chrysler's top car, still dependably selling 100K per year... minimum.

*More PTs were sold last year than Honda Odysseys, Chevrolet Ventures, Kia Sedonas, or for that matter, Dodge Intrepids, Dodge Neons, or BMW 3-Series.

*Chrysler sold roughly twice as many PT Cruisers as Dodge sold Stratus sedans.

I haven't personally seen the HHR, but the potential for 100,000 per year is there.

As a side note, the PT Cruiser is going to be all new in 2006. The structure it's made on will be able to accomodate Chrysler's new V6.

Ready for a 250+ horsepower PT Cruiser?.... no, this isn't just rumor, and no, I'm not making this up.

I don't know about actual numbers but I'm sure they'll outsell PT Cruisers eventually.
1. I like the style/design. Its the first bowtie product thats NEW that I like in a long time.
2. Chevy has a better following than DCX (especially among the target market but this has been changing fast).
3. SW Hispanics LOVE Chevys, and this has a bit of that classic 'bomba' look to it. It's also in their price range (for new cars) and not a blunt econobox.

I can see it a few years from now...HHR vs PTCruiser rivalries

Re: Will Chevy really sell 100K HHR's?

Why would anyone doubt a 250hp PT? Its already got a 220hp turbo engine. Thats not that big of a jump. Its also not like even with the turbo its so blistering fast that their target buyers would be freaked out by an increase in hp. Its pretty damn mundane at its current hp to tell the truth.

Re: Will Chevy really sell 100K HHR's?

If it is priced right, it will sell 100,000. It needs a realistic MSRP

I know one car they could have made instead that would have sold 100,000

Re: Will Chevy really sell 100K HHR's?

Price is the key..

Also if the PT is getting a makeover in 2006 with optional V-6, and Gm does not have the same offerings, then yet again they are stuck behind.

100k?? That would be a huge market to take in.. Not sre if they could pull that off.

Re: Will Chevy really sell 100K HHR's?

I agree, if the price is right they will sell 100K.

This is NOT an enthusiast vehicle. This is just another minivan/SUV hybrid that appeals to Yuppies. The particular appeal is that the vehicle is retro...for all those pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware Yuppie types the HHR is their hot ticket to conversation starters at cocktail parties and soccer matches.

For the same reasons the PT has been successful, so will the HHR, but the HHR is a little bigger which means it is more useful for people with families.

I would be dissappointed if the HHR wasn't the most powerful vehicle in its class.
