Will the 5th gen see heavy discounts?

Will it have a premium when it comes out or will it join the G.M. bargain bin like so many others have? I could see discounts in the beginning to spark more interest over the Mustang. One thing is for sure, either way it will not sell for sticker.

i got a feeling if the styling is dead on, there'll be a premium just like the Mustang had.

-shrug- That'd be nice to get a F-body loyalty discount.

i have a feeling GM is going to price is just right, garner a ton of interest and the crappy dealers are going to "market adjust" it right out of the hands of the people GM intended to purchase it.

Speaking of this, is it possible to buy factory-direct?

I also would like to know why this isn't currently possible?

because dealers have contracts with the manufacturers. As long as there are dealerships, you will NEVER be able to purchase a car right from the manfacturer

Well they better think of something because the whole idea of muscle cars is for the average joe to get a bargain for performance, when you take out the bargain its no longer a muscle car in my book. Maybe we will see more and more people buying used instead. (which isn't what GM needs right now)
Actually, right now we need to plan for some sort of action against these "market adjusting" dealers. We all know they're gonna mark these cars up, any ideas?

If I remember correctly, I read a newspaper article a long, long while ago about how Ford wanted to sell directly to customers so it can reap the same bargaining/baiting tactics that dealerships are so fond of employing. It's obviously not carpet, but the prospect doesn't sound as far-fetched as it seems.

Ford can want to do whatever they want, but as long as their are dealers, it will never happen, count on that.

Little early to be wondering about this, isn't it?

Re: Will the 5th gen see heavy discounts?

If the car comes out anywhere close to what people are expecting, you can expect heavy initial demand.

I would look to the introduction of the 4th gens for guidance. Very short supplies during the first year or so, especially on the V8 models. Don't expect incentives; rather expect sticker or better depending on the dealer. After the first year or so, it's gonna depend on the inherent goodness of the vehicle itself. If it's like the 4th gen and appeals only to purists, asking prices will drop accordingly. If GM learned their lesson and it appeals to a broad cross-section of the marketplace (like the current Mustang), then expect pricing to hold fairly close to sticker for the first few model years before there will be any decent deals to speak of.
