That sounds good to me.

Even though as a daily driver, GTO doesn't quite totally fit all my needs.....I keep vacillating back and forth on if I should buy one or not. A Brazen Orange M6 would be at the top of my list.

Jeeezz....when am I going to grow up?

BTW, I see ALOT of GTO's around here in general ( maybe 3-5 per day), and alot of used ones for sale also.

Just by the amount I see on the street every day, if I didn't know the sales figures, I'd guess Pontiac sells 50,000 per year.

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?

I almost bought one and I wouldnt have been able to afford it. The payment/insurance wouldnt have been to much more than my Cobalt. The insurance is actually less. If I remember the combine cost of the insurance/car payment was about $130 more a month.

Then I remembered to add gas. I've put 10,xxx on my car in 4 months. Gas would have been about 50-60 more a month. (bit more in september). And Id figure an extra $180-190 more a month is a lot of money. Nothing I wouldnt have been able to make. But it have cut into my play money.

Besides, i have to save for the new Camaro.

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?

There are a ton of LS1GTO folks who are from Chicago (including the site's webmaster)... I'm from around Milwaukee, and make trips down there/am an "honorary" FIB :-).

I believe I read that the top markets for the new GTO are California, Florida, Texas, Illinois and Michigan (hello GMS)... a couple of those areas being where GM otherwise doesn't do great business (California and Florida)...

Most of the folks getting rid of their car have to do it because of financial strain, job loss, moving, et. al...

There is a lot of them up for sale. I've noticed because I have been trying to buy one. The 04s are hovering JUST at the 21-22k mark. I'm trying to work on a black one to get it down to 20k even or less. 05s are right at 25 or so.
Sucks for the owners but wonderful for the folks like me who wouldn't mind have a cheap road warrior. Nothing else as new or as fast is available for that price.

If that's the selling price for 04's, I have to say I am impressed with the resale.....

When you consider people were purchasing them for around $24k new, that's a pretty damn good retention of purchase price!!

This could actually make it worth my while to try to sell my GTO at lease end rather than turn it in......

Yeah, after just a year i'm only upside down by less than the amount i rolled in from my trade-in, and i put nothing down. If i wasn't upside down on that one i'd already be ahead

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?

Yeah, I have a decision next September when my SmartBuy comes up. I paid $25,339 and my buy-out is $21,000. My GTO currently has about 6,000 miles on it and will probably have less than 11,000 when the time comes. It might be close to worth $21,000 (with less than 12,000 miles), but probably more like $18,000. I bought it on SmartBuy cause I tend to trade often and was scared of getting hammered on depreciation. As another SmartBuy GTO owner puts it, I'm guaranteed $21,000 trade in value after 24 months!

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?

There does seem to be a good number of them up for sale, considering there were only about 13000 04s and 11000 05s built. Firebird name is going to remain dead and the new GTO will be the sister car to the new Camaro.

I wonder if Dodge announces that the Challenger will be in production whithin 15 months (which is expected), what that might do to '06 GTO sales.

I like your plan, but the LeMans should stay dead
I think he was thinking more along the line of the 1960s LeMans... which is what the original GTO is based on.
