Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
If you go on any of the GTO sites, it seems to me that an awful lot of people are trying to sell, or have someone assume the lease of their - in some cases - nearly new GTO.
Anyone notice this? Anyone know why? Seems to me, for many of these guys, they overbought and now can't financially handle the payments.
And so this doesn't get moved out of the Automotive News/Future Vehicle forum....if there is a next gen GTO, should it be less limited in volume and content than the '04-'06? So maybe the guys who want to buy them, can afford to make the payments and actually own the car for afew years.

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
To contrast that , I havent seen to many used GTO's anywhere where internet forums are not concerned . In the latest GM sales promotions , its been pretty easy to secure GMAC finacing , and prices of the new GTO were alluring enuff to probably get alot of people to think about how their gonna actually manage the payment after the purchase . Rather than logically realize you couldnt afford it .
A guy at work did exactly that with a new Grand Prix GT . Killer GM employee price he didnt wanna pass on , a payment he really cant manage all to well , but had no problems getting approved bt GMAC . Now he's nearly desperate to get out it because like he knew , he really cant afford it . Durrr
If Pontiac does the GTO again , it needs to be like the very popular Grand Prix coupe in that it covered alot of different income levels . A comprehensive , appealing , affordable V6 car called LeMans( with all the complaints about hoodscoopless GTO could u imagine a V6 GTO ,OMG ...lol ) and a powerful V8 model called GTO . Make both models mechanically identical to the G8 sedan . I assume it will have a 6 cyl version too ?

Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
I don't think the GTO should be much cheaper if they bring in a new gen. It should just probably be more recognizable as the "baddest" Pontiac.
Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
I hadn't noticed a glut of GTO's for sale... only seen one in real life.... havent paid a lot of attention online, I guess. though I read a lot of the GTO board stuff.
Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
Just wait to all of these people who bought a house with an interest only loan and adjustable rate loan. When they realize how much more their payments are going to be all hell is going tio break loose.

I think the current GTO served a valuable purpose, during a desperate time for GM. But I don't think this is an ideal paradigm for the production, marketing and sales of a new GTO for Pontiac.
I think GTO should ideally deliver higher volume for Pontiac, and there should also be more approachable variants. How much volume? I don't know, more than now...that's for sure. Maybe a LeMans/GTO coupe, in the same spirit as the GP coupe would be a good way to pick up the slack after Monte Carlo is gone. GTO would remain the range topper.
And to revisit AWD......depending on whether a new GTO would be a two door version of the Zeta sedan or a stretched version of the Zeta coupe (ie., Camaro)...would depend on whether or not AWD would be available.
While I don't want AWD for Camaro because it would make the RWD version, ultimately heavier, more complex and more expensive.....in a larger LeMans/GTO coupe.....especially based off the Zeta sedan, which should retain AWD....would be a no brainer. I can see lots of people wanting to buy a V6, AWD, 5 passenger, LeMans coupe.
So how many of these LeMans/GTO coupes would Pontiac sell? 60,000? 75,000?
Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
I have yet to see a GTO on the used sales lot out here.
Not sure where the people live who are selling them, but you can't discount the effect the recent winter storms had. Most of the current gen buyers were raised on FWD cars, and the slightest problem getting around in the winter they'll blame on RWD despite they'll likely have much the same problems getting around in FWD.
Another thing to consider is that quite a few people are approaching the up side of their loans and are looking to trade for something new.
I suspect that if you compare GTOs up for sale with say Mustangs of the same year, the proportions will come pretty close to reflecting the sales volume differences.

I like your plan, but the LeMans should stay dead

Monaro was always considered a performance vehicle... performance only comes with the V8 option.
No good trying to push sales volumes up if it will ultimately kill the image/character of a nameplate, IMHO.
Maybe they should consider renaming the future 6-cyl GTO something else?
Re: Why are so many people trying to sell their GTO's?
I was over on ls2gto.com for the first time on Saturday, and those guys seem to love their cars. Under the FS ads, people were selling because of lost jobs, no need for the extra car, buying an LS2 model, etc.
FWIW, we just got our first '06...a Brazen Orange (guess who chose that color...
) M6 with 18s. That car just screams "get on me," sitting there on the showroom floor. Its amazing what color does for a car. I love it. I want it
And I'm not even close to affording it
