Who will "earn"the most loyal enthusiasts by the end of the decade?
Who will "earn"the most loyal enthusiasts by the end of the decade?
Ford's got Mustang, Lightning, Cobra, GT, SVT, and the new (for NA), ST brand.
Dodge already has Viper, all kinds of muscle trucks, explosively fast and cheap turbo front drivers, HEMI powered cars...and everything else from SRT.
Chevy has Corvette, upcoming Cobalt SS, a bunch of upcoming SS fwd cars and trucks.....and rumors of better things in the future.
By the end of the decade...which one of these manufacteres will earn the most enthusiasts?

I dont see very many Blue Oval guys that are dissappointed in Ford's direction with its vehicles. They listen to what the customer wants, and they produce. I think thats what any person wants in their car company.
I see alot of GM loyalists making statements like "I wont buy another GM car unless..." and "The new mustang might be my next car" There are alot of die-hards, I guess most of them Truck buyers, but they are thinning.
Dodge will have a place in many people's hearts, but I dont know that they have many die hard, buy nothing but a Dodge enthusiasts. I dont know a single one. Of all the people I know, none are loyal to DC.
Gotta be Ford

I think Ford's got this one in the bag unless GM gets their act together real fast with Zeta. There are not any new GMs that I could possibly afford in the next 5 years that I'd buy, which is quite a disappointment.

I might have to go with Dodge...More the whole Chrysler brand though...
As much as I hate to admit it, Neons owners are Neon lovers a lot of the time. Viper is an ultimate Halo car. Charger will get more than its share of followers. The Magnum will be cool for kids and moms. Chrysler is digging themselves out of a rut really fast. With the PT Cruiser getting all kinds of variations, the whole LX platform, their reborn quality direction....Chrysler is coming back.
Ford is my least fav. of all 3 so their not getting my unobjective vote

Until Chevy brings us something other than a dull, un-inspired design like the GTO, or the Soltice which might as well be a sport compact, and I don't even know what the hell a Cobalt SS is (and I'm a damn chevy enthusiast). I guess it has "SS" after it, so it must be good like the...what?.... Silverado SS? That's the Lightning competitor, right?
All Chevy has is the Corvette. That's IT! That is the ONLY car bringing any sort of excitement to the Chevy line-up.
Look at all what Ford has done. I've seen Ford representatives at various car enthusiast events. The Ford representatives were out there talking to actual car guys and getting their input as to what they'd like to see in a future car. Hell, Ford even went so far as to post on a Mustang message board in order to get opinions on the up-coming Mach 1 Mustang. Ford has performance cars in their line-up because they WANT to.
We're all GM enthusiasts here.
We've been hung out to dry.
Ford is the ONLY company proudly waving the flag of AMERICAN V8 RWD performance. GM may have some V8 RWD cars in their line-up, but to say they are a bit less enthused about it is an understatement. Look at the cars Ford either offers now or will be offering:
-Mustang GT
-Mustang Mach 1
-Mustang Bullit
-Mustang Cobra
-Countless tuner cars like:
Roush stage 1
Roush stage 2 and 3, etc.
-Saleen Mustangs with a TON of engine choices.
Take a look at the supercars like:
-The up-coming Shelby Cobra
-The Ford GT
Hell, look at even the trucks:
-Harley Davidson F-150
-That new Ranchero F-150 or whatever it's called
-The Lightning (who thought trucks could be awesome too?)
Ford is "driving excitement".
Yes, there's an American Revolution going on alright...
... and it's FORD!

Well, outside the Corvette, we still have the SSR. I don't care about what it costs or how much power its lacking (300 HP is enough for what it is). Its still a great car/truck and will garner as much attention as a Lamborghini. It will have its following. Other than that, yea, we're dead in the water.
The SSR weighs like 4700lbs!!! 300 HP definitely isn't enough for that. I like the way it looks though, but I'm more for performance. I'm still considering the Lotus Elise...though that's a lot of $$$ for little luxury.
Okay...this is alittle sad. Chevy has cornered about 6% of the vote in this bastion of hardcore Chevy enthusiasm.
I'm going to help Chevy out here. Chevy could go to KPMG, or someone for a study...but I'll tell you what they'll tell you, and save you afew million dollars.
1) Of course, I'll begin with Camaro. We need one. A real kick-*** one. One with clearly differentiated models, that can get more than just a handful of people excited.

...between all the bitching, there are some good ideas.
2) Don't fear the stick. Say it with me now.....
I understand all the market studies about most people not wanting a manual trans...fair enough. But it would sure bring up the "sportiness" factor up a notch or two, for alot of Chevy's, if manual trans's were more widely available.
3) How about some dapper sheetmetal? I mean look at the Malibu, (if you dare),...was that really necessary? It costs the same to make a beautiful car as it does to make an ugly car.
4) After a Camaro...Chevy really needs an intermediate/full sized RWD CAR. A sedan...with an available V8. I'd like to see a sportwagon based off of it too....maybe call it Nomad.
Don't forget....available V8 and six speed manual too...regardless of what your market studies say. I think DCX's LX cars are about to change alot of people's expectations....be ready for it.
5) Do a Chevy rip-off of the SRT-4. Ok, the Cobalt SS Supercharged is a step in the right direction. But the SRT-4 puts out 240 hp at the wheels for 21K and with available factory performance upgrades good for well over 300hp.
Have the guys at accounting call me for my fee.

I love my SS and desperately want a 5th gen Camaro, but I have to give Ford credit. Ford never put themselves in a situation where the would not be able to produce Mustang.
Ford also understands that Mustang is not only a car but a way of life, much the same way Camaro is.
